I am considering a 12 year anniversary of a symposium , much like the one we did in 2006 for APUG.

What would the people here like to see as part of large photography event.

Digital negs, PS methods of making separations, Wet Plate, Portrait Courses, Darkroom Process Courses.

Your thoughts would be helpful to me in thinking this through.

I'd be interested in both older processes (wet and/or dry plate, carbon prints, etc) and hybrid techniques for the film photographer - I'd like to do more than dip my toes in the water, and be able to jump in.

And most importantly, to be held during a time when I can make it from Japan!

I'd love to go to Contact, but May is impossible for me. Will keep my eyes open for San Francisco 2019!

Wet plate and advanced darkroom process would be of particular interest to me but generally any of the potential workshops sound interesting. Mostly though it would just be cool to meet some of the people from the forum and the analog photography world.

Setting dates well in advance would be preferred for those of us who have to travel.

Looking forward to hearing more about it!

I think a panel discussion on the Sabattier effect is in order:angel:. Maybe Ron will contribute.
You could probably set aside a small room to talk about Solarization as well.

These kind of symposiums require a lot of facility help, gallery help, local enthusiasts, right now we have isolated Toronto and San Francisco as good potential locations where we can visit with ease. Our managing group is very small , our budget is dictated by sponsors willing to see the potential of each location.

We would love to come to Rochester if we could see the groundworks in place that desires us to come.

The most important thing with this kind of venture is an AUDIENCE..with that everything else falls in place.

I am lucky that Toronto has all of the above and I have lots of friends here that will help most specifically with the $$$ in advance to allow us to set up
the offerings properly.

Bob,
I've always wanted to visit Toronto. This sounds like the perfect "excuse." Thank you for organizing the symposium. It's always wonderful to see all the marvelous alt process work being done. d

Hi Denise, if not able to Toronto, we are hoping to settle on San Fran 9 months later. More on that in December when we launch.
One of the Gallerys that is helping us has an ambitions plan to hang over 300 alt prints for their contact show, Another Gallery will have a Pigment Show that is going back and forth between Toronto and New York, another gallery is hosting a Gum over Palladium Fashion Show, and a fourth is going to offer a Silver Lith show of work from India... All told four distinct shows with over 500 pieces hanging on various walls within a single Contact Photo Festival...

This bodes very well, I have just confirmed a Wet Glass Plate Photographer to work at my Facility where not only portraits be done inside and out , but the negs will be developed downstairs and potentially prints from these negs to be made.

I am in discussion with a young digital negative negative programmer dude how is hopefully going to break the dear in the headlight syndrome of making good negs for various process.

Enough Spoiler alerts... more to come.
