I posted this same question on the QTR forum several days ago but received no response so I thought I would try it here.

I am just beginning to learn to use QTR for printing digital negatives. I am on a Windows XP machine so am using the QTR GUI 2.5.2.1 interface. I am outputting to an Epson 2200 with UC inks. When printing negatives to Pictorico OHP I have been using the matte black ink.

One of the settings on the GUI interface is media type. I have been using "Transparencies" but am wondering if I should be using something else. When printing to the same material from Photoshop with the Epson print driver I used "Enhanced Matte" as the media setting.

Is there a recommended setting other than "Transparencies"?

My understanding is that it doesn't really matter much, since the QTR driver controls the ink density directly. I pick photo-quality glossy setting and it works fine. I have also accidentally left it set to matte, and cannot detect any difference in the result.

Clay, thanks for the response. I did test a couple of settings and didn't notice a difference but, since I am only getting started with QTR, I thought I might be missing something.

The media setting decides mainly the ink quantity (AFAIK) but, since you will have to play around with the ink amount settings manually anyway, I think it doesn't really matter, as long as you always stay with the same media setting.
