Hello Cliffy,
A seller whose eBay name is interslice sells excellent custom light-seal kits at a very fair price, under $10 US. His actual name is Jon Goodman. I recommend him highly. His kits come with excellent instructions and he is open to questions by email. Here's a link to his current listings: http://shop.ebay.ca/interslice/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1
Temporarily, there's always the approach I believe Leica used, some black yarn in the channel, should at least let you use the camera until you get the seal kit.
That may work, but don't use Duct Tape...from recent experience the glue residue is nasty to remove and lighter fluid dulled the skin when applying.
yikes.
Just get some new seals. FYI, instead of scraping the old seals out, in most Minoltas you can dig under the end of the seal and find the adhesive strip. If you can find the end of it you can usually just peel the whole seal right out in a very clean fashion. This goes for the rear channel seals as well as the door seals and the mirror bumper as well! It takes only minutes to replace seals on a Minolta if this applies to your camera. Good luck!
