are there any of the older 35m,m film and neg only scanners that will work and work well in this environment? I have my dads old nikon ls-2000 that i have been working with for a while now and im about to throw in the towel. Its running scsi to parallel port to usb cables to get it hooked up. odd thing was when i first hooked it up the computer found it and installed it as a printer port. I tried to update the driver with a vuescan one but no matter what i tried it would not take. and when i launch vuescan it always comes up no scanner installed. so do any of the older ones work in 64bit? or do i need to find a 32 bit solution. how about any of the minolta scanners? all i really want to do is scan a few old color negs, 36 slides and going foward B&W negs.

thanks

Best bet might be to bite the bullet and find an old winxp box to use. I got a great deal recently on an ex-lease dell business desktop, winxp etc for about 80NZ (65 US). You could also track down an old scsi card for cheap. All up I would say you can get an old rig up and running for under $80-100 bucks. As for getting it to work on Win7 64 maybe you can tinker with compatibility mode or dig on the web for an ls-2000 user who got it running.

I'm using a Minolta 5400 on Win 7 64 bit - but with Vuescan. Works a treat. Vuescan supports loads of other scanners too.

I'm pretty sure the original Minolta software is 32 bit only.

dug out an old PC with XP on it. update the ASPI and then plugged in the scanner. id did the same as it did on win7. installed it as a basic USB printer port. but it wont let me manually install the driver from vuescan. uninstalled the scanner on device manager, re-connected and the same thing happened. hmm. maybe my best bet is to try and find an old SCSI PCI card

Usually the SCSI to USB have a separate driver from the one associated with the device. So the idea is to get the SCSI to USB driver working correctly first, then replug in the device and install the appropriate driver? No bueno?

I use a Konica-Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV on Win 7 x64 using the original software and modified driver here.

probably not exactly what you are looking for but you can use ls-2000 in windows 7 64bit with Adaptec ASC-29160N SCSI card (~$10 - $30 on e b a y) + vuescan pro

well, i hopefully solved my problem. traded a friend a bottle of wine for his basically brand new Minolta 5400 scanner, the first series. no i hope to have issues getting colors right, not getting the scanner to work.

thanks for all your replies
