I'm assuming you are referring to Szarkowski? I dunno...I liked John...he's done some great things for photography.

Yes, Szarkowski was great, and championed Eggleston and so many other photographers now recognized as masters. His eye for talent was true, and of course there is no need to be a photographer at all in order to be a successful curator, historian, critic, etc.

Yes, he did a lot for some great photographers...there is a wonderful documentary about Dorthea Lang...and he's featured in a great Ansel Adams Doc.

I heard him speak at MOMA some years ago. Absolutely mesmerizing. I also have his four volume set of books on Atget. Wonderful.
