I posted this over at www.pentaxforums.com in the "Pentax Medium Format: 645, 6x7, 645D" as well. The vast majority over there are digital shooters, so I don't expect much of a response. Anway here's my question:

So, with all of this talk about the 645D and its compatibility with 67 lenses "with an adapter," what are the odds that Pentax will start making this adapter again? Every pre-review I've seen mentions this fact, but not the fact that this adapter is going for near diamond prices on eBay and rarely shows up on KEH these days.

I'd love to have one for my 645nii so I can share with my 67 system, but won't (can't!!) pay $200 to $300 dollars eBay is getting right now - WHEN they even show up that is.

Anybody else hoping for a new production run???

Maybe I'll post a wanted ad and see if anything comes of it, but the prices on these things are crazy nowadays!

Thanks for your time!

They are extremely rare. I actually have a 67->35mm adapter in the F/S forum and no one was even interested though. Kind of suprised me.

Extremely rare, that's why I'm hoping for a comeback!

If yours was 67 to 35mm Pentax (K-mount) I'd be all over it.

To bring it back into production means:

  • Money needs to be spent of market surveys and demographics
  • Floor space has to be taken from a production line that is already making money
  • Working equipment gets sidelined or sold
  • New manufacturing equipment must be purchased, installed, calibrated
  • Employees need to be trained or retrained on use and safety of the equipment
  • Employees need to be trained or retrained on the process of producing the part
  • Raw material purchased
  • Supplier be found and brought on line
  • Money needs to be spent of marketing and advertising
The result is that once the manufacturing of a piece of equipment or device has ceased, it is very hard to get it started up gain.

So while there is still a demand for a Paraminder of the Mamiya Cxxx, the Paraminder has not gone back into production.

Can't you just make one? I have made all manner of ghetto adapters by glueing a body cap to a rear lens cap, and drilling a hole thru  Apart from that, I've seen all manner of odd adapters for sale on ebay; I wound up buying a 645 to 35mm adapter for $20 or so and I bet they'd make whatever you want.
