Will a YONGNUO lens work on my N80?

Does the lens have any electrical contacts?
If not, it won't work on the N80 except in manual mode.
No metering capability with old lenses.
 
Yongnuo lenses are brand new.
 
Not all new lenses have the electronics.
Many are straight manual devices like the old school stuff.
 
Yes, but all Yongnuo lenses I found are of the modern type.
 
Yongnuo lenses have built-in AF motors; the N80 has an AF motor built into the body. I wonder if I'll be able to autofocus w/that combo.

I have one modern Nikkor lens with the built-in motor.
It does AF with the N80 body but it's "trumpian" in the painfully lethargic way it does focus.
Much slower than my older AF nikkors with the screw drive on the same body.
 
Dirt cheap??
Nikkor is 5 times the price.
For example (Yongnuo/Rokinon/Samyang) 14/2.8 $279.00 on Amazon vs Nikkor $1,499.00
 
I've looking at Younnuo, only a few reviews, seems that their lens work better on Canon EOS, lots of complaints about AF and exposure in Nikon mount. Lens are motor driven, problem is that the motors are small and slow. With a 14 2.8 don't need to worry much about using in AF, just manual focus, bracket exposure, but unlike a digital body camera if the exposure is really off you wont know until the negatives are developed.
 

I'm also interested in the Yongnuo lenses , specifically the 40mm and 100mm in Nikon mount .
The only review I've come across that also comments on how they perform on film is one by the Amateur Photographer Magazine ( a weekly mag in the U.K ) .
The main part of the test was with a Canon EOS 5DS R and the 50mm f/1.8 lens . Even on 50 megapixel , the results were good , better in some respects than the Canon 50mm F/1.8 lenses .
The downside is that when it was tested on an EOS 1v ( IIRC ) A/F was a bit erratic .

I've also been meaning to ask on the forum about how the perform on film bodies , and judging by the lack of informed replies no one here seems to have used or owned a Yongnuo lens .
@ Chip , if you bite the bullet , let us know how it gets on .

I found this review. I believe Yongnuo and Rokinon are the same (14mm + Nikon F6 review):
 
Neil, I've been looking at them all, esp the 100mm. I've been longing for the Chinese to come up w/good cheap lenses for Nikon, but NOT digital Nikon!! I don't believe Rokinons are made by Yongnuo.

Just for the sake of curiosity, why are you?

When I bought the Nikkor 135mm f:2,8 I got it for peanuts, and in my opinion it's one of the best lenses ever made, cross-make and cross-formats.
 
100/105 is my "sweet spot" for taking pics, and a 2.0 aperture is awfully nice too.

Please provide a link for a brand new , auto-focus , 100mm f/2 lens in Nikon F mount for £125 that works happily on my f80 , f100 & D300 . Cheers !
I know my f4 won't like it .( no aperture ring ).

I like a lens around about 100mm along with 28mm and 50mm as a walk around set of lenses , 85mm often being too short (when carried with a 50mm ) and 135mm being a bit too long .
And the f/2 would be nice .
I do have the Nikon 100mm f/2.8 series E manual focus lens which is nice , but autofocus and auto exposure in aperture priority with the f80 would be nice .

My main system is Minolta / Sony A mount for film and digital where I have a full complement of lenses with no gaps in it from 8mm to 500mm with zooms and primes , that's where my money is spent on high value gear .
For everything else I set a much lower budget .

I also have some Canon EOS film and digital with a small , but nice selection of lenses .

Other systems I have are such as Nikon , Olympus OM , Canon FD , Pentax K & M42 , Minolta SR , and a range of medium format SLR's and TLRs , and large format .
And too many other things .....
 
One of the first links I had found indicated YongNuo were a Distributor, but, of course I'm reading some translation to English. A little more research and I found the video in the link below. There, it does look like they are actually assembling the lenses at the factory, but they don't show any of the glass production, grinding or coating in the video as one might show in, for example the Nikkor video farther below. So I'm still not convinced they actually make the lenses; need to do some more digging....
