Wideangle lens horseman 45fa? fa users HELP

hi everyone,

I am using a horseman fa for a year now,
with a 90mm which I use all the time, and a 150 which I hardly use.
For interior shots I want to have an additional lens
that's wider than 90mm.
I think I have to choose between a 65mm or a 75mm.
The 65mm are way more available and cheaper to get than the 75mm secondhand. But I have read comments on the internet regarding the
65mm not being fully usable with the horseman fa ...
In the mean while, I've also read comments of people who appaerently do use 65mm with succes on a fa horseman.

I want to know from users, or exuser of the fa horseman:

Is 65mm usable or not!?

Movements I use are 90% of the time front-rise and front shift (sometimes to the maximum the camera allows)

Most 65mm's often only just cover the 5x4 format, I have a 65mm f8 SA and there is no lee-way for movements and also fall off at the corners, that's fine for B&W work and doesn't cause me a problem but I don't have a centre filter for colour work.

The 75mm f8 SA which I use mostly on a 6x17 allows sufficient movements on my 5x4's, certainly a small amount of front rise or shift.

So, Horseman says a 65mm will FIT (which you may know already). I'll have to let others comment on how Usable it is.

I occasionally use a 75mm on my Horseman FA and the front rails do show a little in the image when there is no rise.

Come to think of it, I do have a 65mm but have not tried it on the FA, I'll check it out and let you know.

I have seen the lenslist off course. But as you point out, there is a difference between being usable and just fitting.
I think 75 is the way to go for me.
but i'd be very curious how you find your 65mm behaving ic-racer.

Ok, so I have the FA in front of me with the 65mm lens. It has no problem focusing at infinity. The front rise at infinity is FULL (with that front plate swung out of the way). The front rails do show a little at the bottom of the image (with NO rise).

If you drop the front bed, it does get difficult to focus at infinity. The front standard still needs to stay on the front rails, but it needs to be moved way to the back, almost 1/2 off the rails.

One caveat, though. My 65mm is mounted on a Horseman RECESSED board (5mm). These boards are hard to come by and your results may differ if you use a flat board.

BTW, my 75mm is mounted on a FLAT board.

I have seen the RECESSED boards for as much as $280 USD. So, if you add that to the price of your 65mm it may still not be the best way to go.

Perhaps someone with a 65mm on a flat board will give an opinion.

I do see some recessed lens board from china on ebay.
they don't cost a lot..

game, the 75mm SA's sometimes sell for very reasonable prices on Ebay, I paid 200 euros for one last year from Italy. It was described as mint, in fact it was new and had never been used.

There's been quite a bit of discussion on APUG about 65mm lenses on 5x4 you could try a search, some people like them for 5x4 others don't. The major downside is the very tight image circle, I tend to only use front tilt so that's no problem, but I have to use back tilt as well as front tilt & rise to prevent the front of the focus track on my Wista getting in the frame, sounds harder than it is in practice.

The 75mm is an excellent lens, handles shooting into the light extremely well and is razor sharp. Used alongside an otherwise excellent zoom on a 35mm recently the zoom flared the 75mm SA images are perfect, that was shooting into the sun.
