Why so dang cheap?

Hi APUGers,

Here's a barganza alert on KEH. They have a 65mm Mamiya lens on Ebay for $239. It's not a current bid price, but a buy it now price.

Why so cheap? Did they get a good deal on them? They're offering 9 of them at this price. They're brand new in the box. I'm tempted to get one. But leave one for me just in case I want one

They got a bunch of RZ and KL lenses they've been trying to get rid of for awhile.
These are the last as most are gone.
They also had some 645AF glass for cheap.

That 50 is the older non M-LA (floating element) optical design but it's still good.
I paid more for a used one about 3 years back.

I paid $110 for the model with the floating element on ebay about 2 years ago. Cosmeticly, it's kind of a beater, but it works flawlesly, and is a sharp as any of my "prettier" lenses.

A shop here in Tokyo is selling a new in the box 90mm for about the same price... Link although I suspect the 90mm is normally cheaper than the 65mm

I think a 90mm is cheaper because it's the "normal" lens for the Mamiya so they make more of them. It's sad to see that these great cameras and lenses aren't as valued today. I bought my RZ over 25 years ago and it cost a fortune. The upside is that it's cheaper for folks like us that appreciate these cameras to buy them. I work at a university art department and some of the students are rediscovering film cameras. I see them shooting the Fuji 6x7 and Haselblads. There's still hope for analog photography!

It is an RZ lens. Can it work on the RB body? Or does it require the electronics to work properly?

I've got an RB body. Sure would be nice to get it spiffy and working.

Same applies to the P645N. The autofocus 75mm lens which is the standard lens is still reasonably priced despite the arrival of the P654D but almost every other FA lens and most A lenses have soared in price.

Sorry, you can't use an RZ lens on an RB body. The RZ lenses require electronics, and the shutter speed control is on a knob on the RZ body.
You can use RB lenses on an RZ body though. Mamiya recommends an adapter of some kind, but I've mounted them straight on with no adapter. I think the adapter "ensures a tighter fit" or something like that, but I've never had any problems.

From what I know, RZ lenses won't work on RB bodies because the shutter is electronic in these lenses. RB lenses will work on RZ bodies. I have a 65mm RB lens and it works fine. RZ bodies are pretty cheap. I got a used RZ body in good shape with a WL finder for about $260. Maybe you can snag on on Ebay for cheap.

KEH consistently has very good prices and a warranty ..
do a search here on apug and you will find oodles of
happy customers . unless it is some crazy antique photo thing
i tend to not buy from epay but just go to keh ( or a similar dealer ) ...

Tempting, maybe i should buy this 90mm, but i am confusing if 90mm or 110 is a better choice for me to use on my RZ.

No, i am not prefer 90 over 110 or vise versa, but i was meaning why one is better over the another, in terms of what?
