Why I'm giving up on Fortepan

For one, I don't know if SS is even available larger in MF. That aside, I suggest you read the previous posts that tell you where to find 35mm SS for the same price your paying for 120 Fortepan.

I like Acros too, BTW. I also like SS, for different uses, plus it's cheaper.

I have a little twinge of guilt about this thread like the kid who gets mad at someone and wishes them dead, and they get hit by a car a week later.

Perhaps you might want to be a bit more careful picking which film manufacturer you next "give up on"?

No mentioning of any brand names here. One thing that really amaze me is why so many chose one brand of film over the other based on a marginal price difference.
Let's assume that you go on a photo backpacking trip on Saturday, you drive, fly, ride or i think rarely walk to your favorite place. If you shoot 35mm you come home with 5 rolls of B&W film. Perhaps the same in 120 format.
4X5 shooters will bring home on a good day 10-15 sheets and a 8x10 shooter maybe 6-8 sheets, just estimates.
According to my calculator the difference between some of the least expensive film and some from the 3 main manufacturers (We know the names)
it could be between 5 and 20$ depending on format.
Now calculate all the cost for the trip. gas, tires, food at a restaurant and anything else you spend money on. How much was the saving on the film really in the whole sceme of things?
In addition, Using film that have a greater risk of flaws could ruin the whole trip.
I admit that i use film from some of the lesser expensive companies but no longer for any "serious" work or work that is not easily redone. Use it simply cause i like to experiment with different results.
Film price should not really be the determining factor when it comes to picking a film. Just my opinion .
