Why doesn't the Metz flash flash with the Rolleiflex SL66?

I'm trying to get an old Metz 45 CT-4 flash to flash plugged to a Rolleiflex SL66 to photograph the cat indoors

On the SL66 using the standard Metz PC sync-cord thingy:
FP socket it fires (of course that's of no practical use )
X socket doesn't fire

On my Nikon FM using the standard Metz PC sync-cord:
X socket fires no problem

Is there a wire loose in the SL66? It would be nice to use a flash without having to invest in an LS lens! How are the LS lenses anyway for sharpness/bokeh/rendering? (a Distagon for a standard lens sounds quite strange )

Could be:

-) the shutter and its contacts
-) the body with a broken wire
-) corrosion at the body PC contact
-) some deformation at either PC connector, that makes the thing still it work on the Nikon, but not on the Rollei

Hi AgX,

They are good starting points. I will keep testing. Thanks!

The mechanisms in shutters that set synch to X and/or FP are just as capable of getting gummed up as anything mechanical, except in a lot of cases they get gummed up without anyone noticing. The camera should be checked. It may be cleaning, lubricating and adjusting (CLA) will be enough to solve the problem.

The x-synch mechanism is in the camera body and may be in need of repair or adjustment.
