Thought I'd just have a quick look, and before I knew it I was the owner of an uncoated prewar Schneider Xenar f:4.5/180mm, and a Rodenstock 9x12 folding plate camera...

I've got to stop doing this!

Now, if I could only find a good 90mm or so with plenty of coverage...

Looking for a scanner for my 8x10" negs and transparencies (just for web use), I picked up a really ugly looking (had paint sprayed on it) Agfa Duoscan T1200 for $20.50 plus shipping. Alas the transparency scanning function seems not to work, though I really like the interface and the reflective scanning is excellent, so I'll keep it, and I may be tempted to buy another one--working and tested, though, this time. They can usually be had for under $100, shipped, which is not bad for something that can handle an 8x10" transparency.

I don't look anymore-)) Unless something is DAMN cheap I just look away. I spend more time convincing myself not to bid then to bid. Everytime I get close to bidding on an 8x10 I go and weigh the bag holding my 4x5.

I've decided I only really need a few things and those are mostly best bought new.

I used to belong to a classic car club. They had a rule that every time someone bought a new car, they had to donate a dollar to the club. I think we need to do that here... LOL As an aside, I once bought 1 1/2 1930 Ford Coupes. I paid $1.50 hehe

I had been following E-Bay because I was after a good 4x5 field camera. Well I got a mint Zone IV for a nice price. Very happy. Much better built than the new lightweight ones. But I watched a Toyo CF45 sell for $585. You can mail order one for $549.

Well, I did it again...

I got a wide-angle lens. A 90mm/8 Super Angulon, $250 wasn't to bad...

In the process, I also got another old folder - another 9x12 plate camera: A Rodenstock this time.

I've got to stop looking, or I'll buy a 480mm lens. And then I'll "need" a bigger camera...

I will have to recruit OleTj as my Ebay buying agent I gave up on Ebay as far as buying goes, too much sneeky software out there that snipes at the last few seconds. Seems like the only auctions I win are the ones nobody is interested in or ones I was foolish enough to set a very high limit (more than a new one is worth). So I do most of my buying on KEH.

OleTj, It sounds like you acquired some nice items..

My "secret" to buying on Ebay is simple: I live in Europe, and read German. I buy nearly everything on ebay.de

The great advantages to this are:
1: The listing comes up with items ending first at the top of the list, so a quick glance is enough to tell me if I want to look closer today.
2: Prices are lower.
3: Lots of "expensive German Glass" - a lot cheaper than US prices for "cheap domestic"...
4: Postage is lower (and mostly faster) than from USA to Norway.

The 180mm/f:4.5 arrived today. What a beaut! From the serial number it must have been made around Christmas 1928 - and it is in perfect condition. Shutter works, and seems accurate enough at all speeds!

I don't really know what I'll use this lens for, as I already have a 210mm and three (!) 150mm's. It just seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess. And cheap at EUR 50.- (about the same in USD)...

My recent acquisition of this sort was a 360/5.5 Tele-Arton in a Copal 3 shutter for $425, and it's in outstanding condition. I mounted it on a Wista extension lensboard for my Linhof 4x5", and eventually I'll probably have it cammed. The first couple of test negs look good.

The price penciled in on the bottom of the box (probably the used price, probably Canadian dollars)--$2581.00.
