I am curious as to weather Kodak, Fuji, Ilford, etc all make their own 35mm film canisters? or weather they get another company to make them and print their information onto the outside? If they do get another company to make then where is this company and what are they called?

Also do the 120 film spools get made by this company or does each company make their own 120 spools?

To my information at least Kodak, Fuji, Agfa and Orwo did make them themselves.

An independant and well known manufacturer is the Spanish company AP.

Have you noticed how much better the Fuji (B&W) 120 spools are compared to Kodak & Ilford. There's a pressure piece that grips the paper leader as you load a new roll stopping it slipping out.

This is one of those small things that makes an astounding difference, I look forward to loading Fuji for this reason.

The hook that catches the hole in Fuji leader paper and the slanted tops and bottoms on the spools make the Fuji spools a joy to use!

I have a lot of trouble with the Efke spools.

Another appreciative user of Fuji 120 spools here. I have a few of them saved, and constantly re use them as they make loading easier.

And what to think about the end seals of the Fujifilms???
Never seen a better solution than this....

Don't remeber me at the earlier FP4 and HP5 seals with that peppermint (eucalyptus) taste.
Awful ..

Cartridge Manufacturer

If you are looking for an indepentent manufacturer, contact the folks at Freestyle Photo here in the states. They have sold new Ilford type film carts for years in a plain black finish, with or without DX film speed coding.

I loved the ilford peppermint ish flavor. I really miss it, it was a welcome change when you had to lick and lick.
But i love the Fuji peel and seal. Its a great safety feature. I have had to tape many Kodak, Ilford... rolls back together.

Agfa Portrait used to have a pear drops (UK sweets) flavour, not just upon seal but also when you separated them from backing during processing, in the 90's I developed many thousands of rolls-kind of miss them.
I also like the Fuji 120 spools, some Ilford seem to have a blob of glue under the tab on loading-don't like that much..
