I love my darkroom because that's where I develop my negatives and get to see my images for the first time.

I dislike my darkroom because, having made refinements in my printing techniques, I now have to re-print about 100 images

It takes a bit of motivation to go into my darkroom but once I get going I can't leave it.

Don't have a wet darkroom set up at the moment...drat...but, I worked in my prior darkroom--custom designed and built by yours truly, btw--for 18 years. Since it was a custom space, everything was always where I wanted/needed it to be! Once my current home becomes a kid free zone (not too distant future) I will build another darkroom; just hope we "film nuts" will be able to get good materials for many years to come.

I don't have one, but the army base near me has a photo center with darkroom and I go there three times a week. I already have a band room and home portrait studio so my wife won't let me take over anymore rooms.

I'd use a darkroom if I had one, but alas its not to be. If I ever get my own place I'll try to put one in if possible. The last time I used a darkroom was 1993.

I go in it once/day to just sit. I may not anything to do, but I just have to go in. Of course, it's much better when I do have something photographic to do.

It is also our bathroom, so I just can't bring myself to say "I love my darkroom" :rolleyes:

I do, however, say I love darkroom work.

I wish, that once again I had one. I still have a Sauder LPL 4500II enlarger in a box around here - it's been in the box for about 10 years now. One day, I keep telling myself I'll set it up again.

It takes me about a week to get around to actually going into my darkroom. Once I'm there, it takes me about a week before I'm ready to leave again.

A quiet sanctuary from the world under soothing dim amber lights. Where there are always interesting, vitally creative and challenging things or relaxing, mindless tasks to be done. Where you can choose to listen to the music that everybody hates except you, where television can't intrude. A place where you can shout "You can't come in!" at anyone who comes knocking at the door to disturb you, and they actually just go away with no hard feelings.

Yeah, I love my darkroom. Those Photoshop guys don't know what they're missing.

it took a year for me to build.
the drop ceiling works wonders
to keep dust/debris from the
subflooring above - above.
there is just enough light that leaks
and sound that travels that i know if it is still day,
and if my kids are jumping off the chairs, tables and couches overmyhead.
it is still dark enough that i bumpmyhead into the cabinet everytime
i try to leave, almost asiftosay "stay, just a littlebitlonger"
it is a nice home away from home.

The magic cave, where wonderous things happen. Shine light through a piece of plastic onto a sheet of paper. Put the paper in a tray full of a mysterious fluid, and watch a picture appear. a place where you don't even need a wand to perform magic.

I love my darkroom, and yes, it did change my life! I have not done anything in there for a long while, but I feel the ice in my brain starting to break apart.

It's been a long, hard climb.

I hate my darkroom, it's dark, cramped, smelly and suphocating. But only in it can I make images I want. And I love making those images....Talking about a rock and a hard place...

It's a better place than photoshop. A tent in the wilderness with trays and chemicals would be good too.

Amen!

A refuge from the rest of the world. The gentle hum of the fan, the gurgling water, and the music.....a wonderful creative isolation like no other, where I can concentrate on the making of images.
