I feel for you Shaun, my Agfa / Ansco10"x8" arrived today and I'm already off. It's . . . . . . . . big after 5"x4". But you're the lucky one shooting in the Summer, it's cold, damp and miserable in the homeland, although did get 10mis sun after the camera arrived, befdore it got dark.

I am tempted by 8x10 because of the ability to do a decent-sized contact print, but the price of 8x10 is too high for my use (portraits and erotic) where I like to shoot a lot of frames to capture the "moment". And I haven't got the money for 50 shots in a session (I'd rather not think of the price of 50 colour negs + dev + printing as I can't do colour myself).
Therefore I stick to 35 mm for now and consider MF later.

I have been shooting 8x10 for a couple of years after working with 4x5 for almost 20 years. I really have gotten addicted to the 8x10. This past fall, a friend gave me an 8x10 enlarger. I still enjoy the contact prints, but the enlargements sell better. One day I hope to work in platinum/palladium- just to kick it up a notch!

It is good to know there are other 8x10 shooters in the world.

Just fired up my new, second hand, 8x10, R.H. Phillips and Ries jr over the weekend. Ive shot all of six sheets of film now. Talk about a newcomer. Hope to develop later this week. The combination is just a couple pounds heavier than my 4x5 Technikardan and Gitzo, so even an old guy 64 can get out there and enjoy.

Actually I didnt have to get too far out there. We had 14 inches of snow over night, pretty rare in these parts. I cheated and composed inside, then stepped out at pond's edge for a meter, final focus and click. Hope I understood compensating for the snow with a gray card. They are still making film this week I hope if I didn't. I start printing platinum later this month when school starts up again. Its fun being the only one over 20 in the class.

I've been shooting 8x10 for a bout a year, and I really have not been impressed by the contact prints. I've been able to get nicer prints enlarging the 4x5 negs, even when using the same taking lens.

That being said, 8x10 chromes are a thing of beauty.

I checked out the Idaho prints..they are beautiful...thanks for sharing....I wish you would not have mentioned the trouble you had to go through printing..carrying the water and all.....made me feel a bit guilty and unproductive and destroyed quite a bit my self esteem....

I especially liked the broken mirror shot! Good work!

I shoot mainly 8x10 since I got my Toyo 810MII, this format allow me to make contact prints. I like the details I can find on the negatives and on the prints.
Other formats seems to be so tiny near 8x10... I'm dreaming on 11x14
