Hello everyone,

I was curious who else here is making digital negatives for contact printing on silver papers (AZO also)?

I had done testing some months back using PDN, and had ok results. Lack of time caused me to stop testing, and I hope within the near future I can start again. I'm sort of waiting for the PDN Curve Calculator II to be release before I resume.

Those of you who are making contact prints on B&W papers, could you share your experience, and perhaps some tips?

I'm using an Epson R2400, Pictorico White Film, and PDN. I did notice a few things in my first series of testing.

I was only using variable contrast papers, (Fotokemika Varycon FB & Foma FB). The Fotokemika was a slower paper, and I noticed the begining of the Epson Venetian Blind effect, but did not notice this with the Foma. I think this was a result of increased exposure times. Perhaps that could be useful info for others dealing with the Venetian Blind effect.

I had read somewhere, perhaps on this forum, that some people had better results using graded papers, can anyone confirm this, and how was it better?

For my next round I think I'll be testing the Foma, Varycon, and Emaks K888. I would also like to test Kentmere's graded Bromide paper, but we'll see.

Another idea I had was possibly using Ortho Litho Films. I was thinking maybe this would give me better sharpness on the final prints. The idea being: editing the image in Photoshop, then printing it on White Film, contact printing the White Film image on Ortho Litho film, then finally contact printing the Ortho Litho film on the B&W paper. Right now this is only an idea, and I'll have to try some testing to see if there are any improvements.

Regards,
Martin
