Free Who Can I Give My Enlarger To?

Help, how do I find people who want to buy a Saunders/LPL diachronic enlarger from me for as cheap as it costs me to ship it? It was given to me when a brilliant relative died and left it behind. . . no one in my family knows what to do with it. It still has its lens and is in great condition except for the red plastic (resin??) plate which is broken.
I need to mention that I am against selling on Ebay. I just want to get this thing into the hands of someone who knows how to take care of it and values it. . . . where do I go to find buyers??
 
I am not sure if this post belongs in free stuff because I cannot afford to ship this for free and would ask only that the buyer would cover the cost of shipping. . .
But other than that I am desperate to get this into the hands of someone who actually knows what it does and how to care for it. Nor I nor anyone in my family knows what to do with this device we were given. . . it still has its lens and looks to be in good condition to my untrained eye.
Here are some details on it:
Saunders/LPL 670 Dichronic
"Componar-C2,8/50 (Lens made in Germany) Schneider-Kreuznach"
The back says:
"DA-2- 0057071
IN PUT 120 V.A.C. 50~60HZ
OUT PUT 82 V.D.C. 85 WATTS
MADE IN JAPAN"
The plug says "Kawasaki KP-30 Japan".
Yes, the lens is still in there. Nothing appears to be missing. . . .
The only problem I can see is that there seems to have been a colored red plate of plastic or resin that used to be suspended below the lens by a short metal pole; it has broken off. The corner of it is the only part of it that is left, still attached to the pole, which looks to be unharmed.

With enlargers, shipping can be awkward and expensive, so it really, really helps if you indicate your location - at least approximately.
Your city and state and country should work.
There is at least a reasonable chance that there is someone local to you who would want to pick it up from you.
You described the enlarger in your other post. I'd suggest copying that description over to this thread.
As a new member, you have somewhat restricted access to our private messaging function. If I would be living in the States, I would have been more than happy to give it a new home!
However, I do think it won't be too difficult to find an enthusiast who'll give it very good use and I think this forum is one of the better places to get it to a good home.

Listing it on Craigslist gets your message out to LOCALS in your area, who can pick it up!

And it would safe the OP from the hassle of building a crate or such.
 
The unfortunate truth is, you can give them away these days. You may try the classifieds right here on Photrio or local camera club I don't keep your hopes up. It is a shame.
 
The Saunders/LPL Dichroic is a pretty nice enlarger. For many that already have an enlarger, it would be an upgrade. Location comes into play; you'll find it easier if you're in a metropolitan area. Thanks for taking the effort to find it a home.

BTW, it's common for the recipient of "Free Stuff" items to pay shipping.

Thanks mate! I wish I could get it to you. . . if someone would teach me how to disassemble it, pack it carefully, and cover the shipping cost I would gladly send it anywhere in the world. . .
You're from the Netherlands? That's awesome. I have a friend who will be traveling to the Netherlands this winter.
 
@wiltw @AgX Okay, thank you. I will do that, if I can't find someone that I know personally in my town who will take it. . . .
As for shipping, I don't mind the hassle of disassembly/building a crate, as long as I could have someone help me figure out how to do it without breaking anything. I would be scared I would scratch the lens or something while trying to take it apart. . . .
 
Ask local High School and College photographic instructions who still do traditional film in their classes, if they personally need an enlarger, or if the have standout students in need.

Need and a Dedication to wet darkroom should be the first considerations.

I've.used Craigslist to give away enlargers, in the past, but, I today's economic climate, I would be wary of those whom would resale it instead of putting it to good use themselves; exception being, their giving it as a gift to someone in need.

That's my 2¢, like it or no.

I'd put it on CL, freelist, and several other places like that. It should be gone soon after that. This is a very, very strange part of darkroom photography, as the enlargers are a fair amount of money to buy and get shipped to you, but when it's time to sell it, things are totally different. I ended up setting 2 enlargers on the sidewalk in Albuquerque, N.M. because after weeks of online ads, no one wanted them.....until after I got moved of course. Then they came out of the woodwork.

That is how I found my 4"x5" Chromega Dichroic D5-XL and Arkay Omega Dual-Dri Professional Model 150 only a few miles from me.

It would help if you indicated your general location. There may very well be someone on this forum that would be happy to stop by and pick up. I happily drove about 300 miles to pick up one of my enlargers.

sometimes you can donate them to local darkroom programs. i dont know any in alabama but someone else here might. good luck!
 
I teach high school photography up here in Canada. We use that same enlarger. I would gladly take it off your hands if I could. Shipping would be prohibitive, though. Are there any colleges or community darkrooms where you live? You could try there. Any good photography stores that sell used gear? And there is always Craigslist. Good luck!
