Thanks for mentioning Fred Herzog. I wasn’t familiar with him. I walked through my little village today looking for color. I don’t think it’s there anymore. Signs are regulated, small and bland. People dress in blues and browns. Buildings are neutral colors.

And if you had been around Vancouver in the 1970s and later, you could have attended his slide shows - usually in places like publicly accessible halls - where for a small admission charge he would project his work for your enjoyment.
The work you see now displays a skewed version of his total work. He travelled widely, and the slide shows featured much more than the street photography we now see.
For his day job, he worked as a photographer and technician at the University of British Columbia.

I see Herzog says he shot from the hip without raising his camera. Anybody know what camera he used? I’d guess a rangefinder from that, but Could certainly be wrong.

Not sure what he used back in the day, but he is shooting with a Canon Sure Shot WP-1 in this video. Interesting choice.

He also talks about shooting from the hip...
