Dave,

I have had a set of Alien Bee's for 2 1/2 years and love them. If you are on a tight budget i think that they are the way to go.

As my only strobe experience has been with Bee's kit, I'm very happy...I got the four light set and upgraded to the 1600's and added barn doors.

A five year warranty is nice as well. I also got the vagabond battery (the 300 I think). I've used that outside with all four lights-no problem. It won't work a coffee pot though..(long story).

Pocket wizard works with them too.

I had two X1600's and both the lights and the service was excellent. A highly rec'd buy.

I bought a used White Lightning from Jeremy Moore and I'm still amazed at the punch that little thing can deliver. I show off to folks with it by writing something on styrofoam with a black pen then flashing it right in front of the reflector. The pen marks are melted into the styrofoam.
