I googled and searched this site and didn't find the answer. A list on wiki suggests the following are non-SSM:

85/1.4 ZA
135/1.8 ZA
16-80 ZA

Is this correct? Are there more Zeiss A-mount non-SSM lenses? Do the three lenses listed above work on all Maxxum/Dynax bodies from the 7000 to the 7 and 9?

I'm looking at replacing a disintegrated Maxxum 7000 body and want to understand the lens options. I realize the 7 is SSM compatible and the 9 isn't, unless it was upgraded after purchase, or a late model.

Thanks for any feedback on the lens question.

The 16-70mm won't be much use to you as it is for a crop sensor digital camera , most if not all focal lengths will result in just a circular image on your film.

For a full list of lenses go to Dyxum.com . go to the lens section and use the filters , A mount , full frame , CZ , non SSM .
What's left after that will work fine on all A mount .

Thanks Neil, I'm new to the Dyxum site, and this helped. The 85/1.4 ZA and 135/1.8 ZA lenses look like the only non-SSM full frame Sony Carl Zeiss lenses that were made. On the Zeiss site, it says the 16-80 ZA is SSM, at least the current version. It didn't show up on the Dyum database. Thanks again.

The Zeiss 16-80mm is a gear driven lens , there is only one type .
These is a full frame 16-35mm lens that I thinks a Zeiss and is SSM .
The other lenses in the 16-***mm range are all for crop sensors , no use with film .
One being the 16-50mm f/2.8 which is SSM , and of no use to you .
There is another lens for late Minolta and Sony A mount cameras that has a built in motor called SAM .
Again , fine on a Dynax 5 or 7 , no focus on earlier cameras .
Avoid antyhing with "DT" in their discription , this us for crop sensor cameras only .
