Just picked up this beast at my local camera shop for $30.00.And a beast it surely is weighing in at just over 6 lbs.
I have a pro Manfrotto tripod that will handle the weight but I don't know which head to use.My 2 options are;A Man. pistol grip or a Man.Midi Ball Head.
Maybe I should hire someone to lug this monster around for me and let me use them as a "human tripod"?
Suggestions anyone?
I used one with a Nikkor 600 f4, which would be a bit heavier.
Google him. He was a Sydney schoolboy who designed the first fluid head, mainly used in the cinematography, but also used by sports photographers who don't have to move often.
If you want "leightweight, but good for heavy gear and affordable" try the FLM ballheads from Germany. I have a 58FT, weighs ca. 900g. But it's stable enough to hold a Bronica Gs-1 with a large telephoto lens plus converter... or a heavy 35mm SLR with a 800mm lens at 1/8 second.
