I have several rolls of bulk loaded Tmax that was given to me. I don't know if it's TMX or TMY. I guess I could expose one and find out. In case of misexposure, how would this film handle? Development suggestions. D76

No need to expose some. Cut a piece of unexposed film, process it and read the text. That should tell you what you have.

Run a short clip test just a few frames long, develop, and look at the edge markings. Use the longer of the two possible development times in the developer you're going to use anyway. Better yet, make exposures on the clip test to check for shadow and highlight densities and the contrast you're getting.

Don't even need to run a tank full of chemistry. Next time you're making prints, you can run a 6 inch strip of film, in the dark of course, through your tray of print developer, stop, and fix. That will develop the rebate markings and that's all you need to know.

Wow. I can't believe I forgot about the markings. Too bad about the 6 inches of snow out and the fact that my darkroom is 20 miles away.

i would do just as you suggested at 200 and
just bracket a stop each way and process in your small tank normally ...

bracketing should help you out ...

have fun

There´s no need to develop, since the base of tmx is kind of purple, and tmy´s is black.

Will that change with age? It was in the man's refrigerator for quite some time (years). It looks kind of like a brownish purple.

Just found some markings on some the canisters that I didn't look at. It's mostly TMX except one roll is TMZ. I would have figured TMY given that he worked for a local newspaper.
