Which slide tray for a Braun D300 slide projector?

A friend of mine gave me a nice Braun slide projector, a D300, but it came without any slide trays. I have a Paximat Multimag Compact-Magazin 50 here, but it doesn’t fit.



This projector “lifts” the slides to the optical path above the tray, instead of sideways, like the Cabin I also have. The Braun has a big black rail in the lower surface of the tray path.


I searched the web and came empty-handed. So, I ask you: which is the right tray for this projector?

You mixed up manufacturers:

-) there is Braun in Nürnberg, with that achromat as logo, with a long tradition in optics and cameras since 1915. They made the Paximat projectors with their propriatory trays. Later they changed to trays/magazines of competitors as hinted at in the name Multimag.

-) there is Braun in Frankfurt, with that electronic tube in their logo. They started with audio products and got famous for their design. Only in the 50s they entered the photo field by manufacturing electronic flashes and later bought up camera manufacturer Nizo.
Your projector is from this Braun manufacturer.
Yours takes the Universal-tray, also called Gemeinschafts-tray, nowadays the most common tray.

For West-Germany alone I counted so far 10 basically different magazines, plus subversions.

Good to know about the universal trays, as they can be had for a dime a dozen, even on that big auction site.

Another modern tray is the Leitz-Kindermann tray, I never came across so far.
And the ingenious Agfa-CS tray, also rare here.

But be alert, concerning the Universal magazin there are many reports out there of clones made to lesser precision that easily jam.

I got some made by AP. They come in a pair inside a protective box. They look identical to the one you posted.

The Universal tray takes all kinds of slide-mounts

The LKM one is more densly packed, thus needs slim slide-mounts.

The Agfa-CS one is also densly packed, but needs propriatory Agfa-CS mounts. The mounts run in slides and cannot fall out.
