The Nokton 50/1.5 seems very sharp. How does it compare with Leica's 40/F2 'cron? It's difficult for me to see looking at my 4" X 6" prints. Thanks.

Enlarge them a lot larger (11X14 or even 16X20) then examine them under magnification to make your own determination. Any chunk of glass will probably give you acceptable results at 4X6 print size.

Thanks!

Not really, but I got rid of those unsharp Nikkor lenses long ago. The 50mm Zeiss Yashica mount was also not sharp. The cheaper Yashica was sharper. Thank G_d we have Cosina today. http://www.cameraquest.com

Unsharp Nikkors? A Zeiss also not sharp enough? Hmmmmmmm!
You seem to be a very demanding individual.

Cheers

Maybe he had a 43-86 zoom and an uncoated 300/4.5 Tessar?

Or maybe he plays football with his lenses first, or cleans them with sandpaper?

I too find these assertions surprising, owning (as I do) Zeiss, Leica, Voigtlander and Nikkor lenses.

Cheers,

Roger

I had an old Nikkor 50mm F1.4 and a Nikkor 200mm F4 Q. The 200mm was really a poor lens, like really really poor. The Zeiss 50mm Yashica/Contax mount wasn't that good either. These were the worst lenses I owned.

I can't be sure, but I fear that one Frank Granovski lurks behind the pseudonym Frank-G. I believe -- could be mistaken -- that the Granovski character has been banned for life from every other photography-related BBS in the known universe. Granovski is, um, a fantasist. Spent a lot of time on photo.net's Leica forum proclaiming the superiority of leaf-shutter Yashica rangefinders and bemoaning his inability to obtain a pristine Leica CL that worked. Colossal PITA.

Of course it's me, Dan, and I did buy a CL. I had it fixed 4 times, then sold it and it had to go in a 5th time by the buyer. Leaf shutters are best, although I sold one of my GSNs. It was a brand new one! (2 left).

So anyone know which one's sharper---the Nokton 50/1.5 vs the 40/F2 'cron? I also wonder which one's sharper between the Nokton 50 and the Nokton 40. Thanks.

Jeeez, Frank, are you still having fun with these sharpness trolls ?

Nothing. It looks like a nice lens, though.

Mine is a nice looking lens as well - I haven't tried it yet though - - I'm still recovering from the cuts inflicted by my 50/2 Z Planar.

I know, but I'm not telling.

sharpness is WAY over-rated ..
go for whichever lens you like
at 4x6 it won't really matter much ..

I was thinking to buy the superb Sonnar Opton 50mm f/1.5, but after all this by Frank, I´m not sure anymore!

Frank, don`t make a fool of yourself!

Y'know, its possible that the good life consists of living under a bridge, subsisting on goat, and robbing passersby.

Frank,

I had to put you on my e-mail spamblock list tonight. I was not interested in your "petition" about the RFF contest. I do not care about that stuff.

This is not RFF, And you are NOT turning over a new leaf by doing postings like this here on APUG.

Folks here do not "compare gear" in the "mine is better than yours" negativism. There are many formats discussed here (all of them film-based, of course) and folks are respectful of each other's choices regarding gear, film etc.

Not to say it cannot get cantakerous here about minor things - but this really isn't a "slugfest" kind of site.

If you have a lens you like, then go with it. Butplease don't challenge anyone else about what they use. And if no one else has told you yet - a lot of the photogs here are using MF, LF and ULF and have no real interest in picayune arguments about 35mm RF gear!

It's a FILM site Frank - not a RF gearhead one!

I won't carry your baggage any longer - if you want to share your knowledge about RF gear in a positive sense then I think you are welcome here. But if it's a "beat 'em up" grudge thing.

Well, I'm not in charge.....

Isn't this a Voigtlander forum? Sorry. Didn't mean to push your button. Anyway, that's not my petition. I only posted it on my site for a few nice RFF fellows, since they don't have webspace.
