Here is a question about what is a good replacement Epson photo printer for digital negatives. I searched for posts on this topic and couldn't find any information. My Epson R2400 (purchased in 2006) is still ok but I expect it to give up the ghost in the next year or so. Works well with Pictorico OHP. It is my understanding that the current similar replacement model (i.e. 13 inch prints) is the Epson P600. Ted Forbes has a YouTube channel called "The Art of Photography" and he does weekly videos on various photo topics. His most recent is a review of the Epson P600. In that video he claims that the P600 does NOT print film such as Pictorico. Does anyone have more insight on this. The big question obviously is what decent new 13 inch Epson printer does one get to make digital negatives with, aside from buying used or a non current model (e.g. the R3000) which likely will soon be out of stock.

If you are interested in dedicating a printer to digital negatives, the Epson Artisan 1430 might be worth considering. I think Inkjetmall is coming out with a Piezography ink set for digital negatives on the Epson 1430. This option is made more attractive by the relatively low price of the 1430 printer model. Not sure, but I think this is still under development. You might write to Jon Cone and ask if you're interested in this path.

PS... Epson is selling refurbished R3000's on its 'clearance' website. There is one for sale every few days (at least recently).

If you can live with a13" width limit consider the just released ne Pro series;they are a lot cheaper thsn the previous models. B&H carries them. They sent me some special ads snd they start at $500. I paid $1500 for an 3880to be able to rint 17" wide but 13" would do me fine:smile:

Picked up a P600 about a month ago and it is a great printer. I tried it with pictorico ohp and it works fine. I found it is not very durable and scratches easily. I have also used Jon Cones Pizography digital neg ink set and I get very good results with my R2400. Those negs are pretty tough and don't scratch easily.
I ordered the Precision Colors hd ink set, preloaded cartridges with reset chips and 4oz bottles of ink.
I will have to see how they work.

I will go along with the P600. It is better than the R3000 which it replaced (Failed after 14 months). I can get a true B&W image and the tonal change from cool to warm tone is so very subtle. The colour balance straight out of the box was so good I have not had to make any changes what so ever.

I use one of the aftermarket continuous ink systems and I get equally good prints and of course a great price saving over genuine Epson cartridges.

What is not durable -- the printer, or the ink on OHP? Ultrachrome K3 on OHP was extremely durable -- it didn't bleed even when a negative was washed.
