Which M42 Adapter for Canon FD bodies?

I own a DLC adapter now but it doesn't tighten on more then a few millimeters. Does anyone know of an adapter thru such as Ebay that actually fully tightens on and gives infinity focusing?

Canon's "Lens Mount Converter P" is the one I'd recommend. It shows up with regularity on eBay.

Call KEH, they should have several in stock. The "P" is the one to get.

None @ KEH. Several available at Ebay with prices that are all over the board from $25 up $100

Yeah I caught that too. P adapters can be a little pricey. I sent off emails to some Ebay people and about whether their adapters fully locked on and no response back. I don't think I'll hear from them.

Have you thought about grinding those flanges of the adapter to make it work better? You wouldn't lose anything, as it is not working in its current state anyway.

P adaptors lock correctly, and are well made.

Although - using a lens as a pre-set lens on a FD body seems strange considering how much good/cheap Canon glass there is out there..

The adapter for M-42 to the EOS mount are very solid and they lock on. Have quite a collection of the M-42 lenses and they are built to last. The problem I have using them on my FD mount is the brass centering screw that locks the adapter in position but it usually falls off after a certain amount of handling. You can pick up EOS bodies for cheap. I also notice the P adapter allows the M-42 lens to mount a bit closer to the mirror so that is probably will allow infinity focus. I really had no use for infinity focus for the years that I used the M-42 and with the great FD lenses for sale it never bothered me.

Bokeh might be one reason to do so.
Or an assortment of M42 lenses already in house.

If I had that many M42 lenses, I would buy an M42 body to go with it. It could be cheaper in the long run than spending money on pricey adapters that might or might not work properly.

If one could go without the handiness of the bayonet (breech-lock version), only one adapter would suffice.

Because there are only old cameras that are available eg. Spotmatic etc. Put M-42 lenses on my EOS 3 and no troubles to infinity & beyond. And of the bokeh you get out of some of the M-42 lenses it is definitely worth the investment. Sorry I did not mean to hijack your post but the M-42 lenses and their use interests me. And I am a Canon freak...

Of all of the FL/FD mount converters offered by Canon, the Converter P (Praktica/Pentax) is probably the most common. If you're patient, you should be able to find one on eBay or another source for a reasonable price (i.e., $20 or less). I've used this converter and can confirm that it provides infinity focus. The only potential issue is that, on M42 lenses with the automatic diaphragm but no A/M switch, you have to lock the diaphragm actuating pin down in order to shoot at less than full aperture.

I've been looking into just that, but after spending more then a few days looking thru Ebay and KEH, I came to the determination that I just don't want to carry a third body just to use a favorite M42 lens. My small kit is now expanded to 2 bodies and 3 lenses. Enough for me.

That is the same for me. It's all about the $$$. I could not afford the 85mm FD lens so I went the cheaper way with the Jupiter 9 M-42 lens. I am just waiting for my retirement plan to kick in... (Lotto 649) and then I can afford a full stable of Carl Zeiss lenses.

Wayne, out of curiosity, what body were you planning on using. I ask because many of canons cameras were shutter priority metering. So they really d'ont work well with m42 lenses or other adapted optics.

An A1 and possibly someday a FTB if I get it cla'd. I use it now with the adapter I have.
