I have a polaroid MP4 shutter copal 1 size.
I wish to front mount a barrel lens and use it for macro work - mostly walls (in style of Aaron Siskind).
I know the Tominon set of lenses were designed for these shutters but have heard not so pleasant things about them.
Ideally I'd like something in the 135mm - 210mm range.
Does anybody have any idea which lenses will fit, with barrel, front mounted?
For instance, can I fit a barrel G-claron, Kowa, Nikon process, Agfa repromaster, or Ronar?

I know G-Claron 150mm etc is copal 0 but I do actually have a screw-in insert from a prontor professional 01 shutter which will allow the use of copal 0 sized lens with this polaroid shutter. Basically, I have a good shutter without an aperture and it seems a waste to... erm... waste it.

As far as I know the MP-4 Tominon lenses (all in barrel) and a couple of other macro lenses for Polaroid cameras (MP-3, CU-5) are the only lenses in barrels with M40x0.75 mounting threads.

I've hung a variety of lenses in front of #1 shutters, first an MP-4 Copal, later a cock-and-shoot Copal #1, using adapters from skgrimes. There's no cheap way to hang one lens in barrel in front of a shutter. The only source of interesting economies is to have several lenses in barrels with the same mounting threads. You can read about my adventures with lenses at http://www.galerie-photo.com/telechargement/dan-fromm-6x9-lenses-v2-2011-03-29.pdf

Your adapter is for mounting cells that were made to fit a #0 in a #1. Cells, not lens in barrel.

And now you know why MP-4 Copal shutters sell for so little.

Thanks very much, predicted as much but will try a Tominon 127mm and see how I get on. Thanks again and will trawl through the link - very interesting.

AFAIK the 127/4.7 Tominon was offered only in shutter. I've shot mine only on 2x3. On that format it was very good at all distances.

You may be thinking of the 135/4.5 MP-4 Tominon. I've had three, all mediocre.
