Which lens for Minolta SRT 102?

I'm thinking about buying one. Which lenses will meter couple with it? MC? MD? Rokkor? SR? I'm not very familiar with Minolta's MF system.

I believe that any manual focus Minolta lens will work. Some of the early ones did not automatically stop down but they still work.

Minolta changed lens mounts with autofocus so they do not work with the SRT cameras.

Most of them have MC or MD on the lens but some very early ones may also say SR.

MC and MD. The SR was prior to ttl and didn't couple to the ring.
MD's are more compact and tend to use one filter size(49? 52?) through the range of lenses and the MC used several different sizes.

MD lenses are more advanced and have better features than the MC lenses. The optical prescriptions will usually be the same as will the lens coatings.

Thanks! That's what I like about APUG-quick responses. So what happens if I use a SR lens? Stop down metering only? And what about the Rokkors?

It is actually an SR mount as I recall and all of them fit. The early ones do not connect to the meter but you can still use them if you want.

Anything with MC or MD will work with the meter.

BTW, Rokkor is just Minolta's name for their lenses like Nikkor and Takumar.

The Minolta SR cameras meter with the lens fully open. You can stop down to get the depth of field. You can take the photograph with or without the lens stopped down. After the photograph the lens will fully open up.

There are also plain Minolta and Celtic lenses. Then there is Minolta Rokkor, said to be the best quality glass. On par with Nikkor and Takumar as stated above.

I just ordered a bargain chrome SRT 102 from KEH. Along with a bargain Vivitar Series 1 35-85 2.8 and an ugly Tokina 35-135. The Tokina was only 4 bucks so why not? The 35-85 has a reasonably fast max aperture so I probably won't even bother looking for a 50 1.7. An 85mm in MD/MC mount is not cheap, but the zoom at 85mm and f/2.8 should be good for portraits.

Which I always thought odd, as both Nikon and Fuji claimed in brochures in the same period that they made their own glass.

As with all the brands, they went from mostly metal, then to rubberized grips then more plastics to save weight. For the most part, the optics continued to be superb.

I have a few Vivitar Series 1 lenses - but not the one you have just yet, and for the most part they are very well made with excellent optics. However, since we are dealing with mostly used gear - previous owner use unknown, we have to exercise some care in selection.

I ordered some rear lens caps and body cap. And on Ebay I found a Wein 625 battery with the light seals. So I'm ready to go when it gets here.

I liked the MD f/1.4 58mm, the MD f/2.8 20mm and the MD f/2.8 24mm lenses.

Enjoy. The Minolta SRT102 is a fine camera and you will enjoy the lenses you have selected.

If you can find one I can definitely recommend the Vivitar Series 1 24-48 f3.8.

But don't ignore the Minolta lenses. They produced some stunning successes.

For some reason the brochure I found was a series of JPGs. Another file shows the Minolta MD lenses.
