which lamp for this durst lavaco 7 agfa head

i got this head wothout any lamp.

daoes anyone know which lamp fits into this socket?

It looks like an ES socket, but what is the distance from the socket to the centre of the condenser lens? If it matches a standard ES enlarger opal-bulb (which are about 60mm from the top of the brass thread, to the centre of the bulb) I would be surprised, but you never know.

The head does look rather antique so if that is an ES socket-and-bulb then it pre-dates the use of halogen bulbs in colour enlargers. I vaguely recall that halogen became popular due to quantity of light and consistency of the light colour temperature, but there is no need to use the colour-filtration when doing black-and-white printing of course.

It takes mains-voltage cine-lamps of 250W. Most likely with the P28s socket (winged lamp foot for bayonet mount).
Back then Agfa offered these from 105-230V. Try to get the appropriate one, or use a voltage regulator.

Good point -- is there a (ES) thread in the lamp-socket, or only a couple of protrusions (or maybe even just slots) that might form a bayonet mount of some sort? And is 250W marked anywhere as a maximum bulb-wattage? It sounds a lot for an incandescent lamp in a small space.

This is definitely not a threaded socket. Not a bayonet BA15s socket either.
There only remains thus the P28s socket.


Agfa themselves stated 250W as the standard for that colour-head and offered the respective lamps.

I tried to find a P28s socket at my collection, but in vain.
But at the photo you can imagine cut-outs of about 2x 90° and ridges at bottom to accept the circumference wings of the lamp.

But with the voltage issue in mind you may better exchange the socket for a GX 6.35 socket and use a current high power single-side pinned halogen bulb for 230V instead.

That is a condenser enlarger. It will be difficult to get a dichroic halogen lamp with the same focal length mirror. If I had that I'd get into the 'vintage lamp' market and get a few lamps for its existing socket.

Although this picture is not your lamp, every time I see one of these CZX I buy it for my Bolex projector. I have about ten of them now.

It is a condenser enlarger. But its lighting system is not basically altered by that color head.

I got the one that head originally was designed for. The colorhead substitutes the original lamp and instead got an own lamp, condensers, filters and mixing stage. This condenser is intended to lighten the filter assembly and would not be critical.
The alternative lamp would not differ much in filament field. Its position would be the same with the new socket heightened.
And I was not referring to a dichroic lamp but a plain mains-voltage halogen 200W lamp. Basically the same as the original Agfa one but of course with much smuller bulb due to the halogen technique.


That intermediate Durst thingy LAVACO not only mounts the Agfa colorhead right ontop the condenser assembly but also seemingly lets adjust the opal window of the Agfa colorhead into the same virtual position as the 138's opal lamp, which now is switched off.



As you I often buy stuff just for the lamps. But as indicated in some instances and for some people it seems more appropriate to substitute lamp and socket for something more modern.
