I've got two old relics---a Kodak precision "A" and a Meopta 6x6, either of which should handle 127film---the issue I have is which one is the easiest to get parts like 127 film carriers for. Any ideas?

Thannks!

Meopta have in sale original parts for theire old enlargers (untill stock lasts). I bought all parts for my Meopta enlargers (Opemus 5 and Magnifax 4) from manufacturer, that is Meopta in Czech Republic, not from distributers in other countries.

If nothing, use enlargers glass negative carrier and mask exact size of film with enlargers film masking blades.

Home made matt board option

For odd ball film sizes smaller than say 6x7, for which I do not have a 'factory' neg holder, I carefully trace the pattern required for the neg holder onto 2 pieces of 4 ply matt board (start with black, or be prepared to use lots of sharpie marker to turn it black). I then find the center, cut the required window, hing them with tape, and I am away to the races. Use sharp xacto/snap off knives, and swap blades frequently; this work dulls them quickly. I have a stock of these units for when I am called on to print 110, 126 , and 127 older negatives.

I have used "Kiwi Leather Heel & Sole Edge Color Renew, Black" with very good result for blacking mount board and chipboard. It is a shoe polish (?) in small applicator bottle meant for dressing the edges of leather soles to black. It doesn't come off once it dries - possibly a latex, water soluble when wet. Dries to a matt black; there is also a 'parade ground edge dressing' but it dries shiney. Most drugstores etc. carry it.

You can find 127 negative carriers for the Omega B-22. You could find a Bogen 22A Special with a 35mm carrier and have its opening enlarged to fit the 127 frame. Older Omega enlargers like the B8, D-2 and D-2V had 127 size negative carriers available for them and these can still be found.

John,
I shoot a lot of "odd" sized formats, and have found that a glass carrier with an Anti-Newton glass to be the best way to go.
