Takes me back to the winter of 62/63 and a small paraffin heater in the toilet as the only way to stop the water in the cistern freezing. Now that would have been a crisis. The best part was playing nought and crosses by scratching the ice on the inside of my bedroom window in the morning. I recall the headmaster at morning assembly asking us to feed the local bird population as it was having a hard time. We wondered what his concern was about. The local bird population in the assembly hall looked fine. Anyway we looked after them as best we could and apparently some of us even married them. Not me,. None of them would have me!

Sorry if the story has confused the non Brits but if I were to explain the joke, it would lose its impact. Long live the Adam Faith generation.

To tell the truth, I'd rather have freezing cold weather and my darkroom here than the nice weather and _no_ darkroom. All my darkroom stuff is still back in Germany. That's why I can spend so much time on the intertubes.

In that case Ralf you have my sympathy. No darkroom must be hell.

Colder AND Wetter

Just to add both comment and picture. Here is McLean and Sandy King this past weekend in eastern Ontario; King never having seen snow before. Saturday (when the picture was taken) was -18c, sunny, just after a major snowfall; a great Canadian winter day. They were fascinated by a wall of ice by the side of the road.
On Sunday the temperature rose to -2 and it started to rain. The roads became dangerously icy and the two of them decided not to take any more images after one stop because you couldn't even stand up by the side of the road with the ice sheeting.
Wet was worse.

Nice image Brian, but I think it needs the bottom 25% cropping!

Last night was a bit of an endurance test. My normal practice while selenium toning is to stand with my head sticking out of the open window while rocking the toner tray (darkroom is in the loft, with a window in the sloping roof). Was going to tone for 4 minutes per print, but quickly decided that 2 was plenty. Luckily only 4 prints to tone or there might have been ice forming in the tray before I finished

I've been getting several of my camera club buddies out in the winter weather this year. Two of them were pretty much frozen solid, but the other one has gone out multiple times and is even borrowing my 4x5 at the moment.

I read about a lunar eclipse over on the LF forum, and though it is supposed to be visible from here, I think it is supposed to be cloudy.

p.s. our camera club is nothing like your camera clubs over there.
