Where to find a Copal 0 aperture scale?

I just received a beautiful Schneider 90mm Super-Angulon f/5.6 lens that I purchased on eBay.

The glass is flawless, but the old Synchro-Compur that it is in seems to be a little slow on the lower shutter speeds.

I would like to purchase a new Copal 0 Shutter for it, but the new ones do not have an aperture scale on them, and the one on the Synchro-Compur is a different style and would not fit a Copal.

Does anyone know if aperture scales are available somewhere?

SK Grimes will provide that service for you at a charge. I had a Fujinon 150 mm re-shuttered. They cut the markings on the shutter itself. You can buy the shutter from them also and I think the cutting of the numbers is included in the price of the shutter. Contact them is best by email thru their website. www.skgrimes.com

Cheaper than them, you might try Jim Galli, he is a member of this forum as well as the LF forum. Normally he has spare aperture scales he could possible sell you. Drop him a aline and see what he says.

Jim, I think I have a shutter for that lens!

My 121mm/8 SA came in a shutter marked from 5.6 to 45, with click stops. At 5.6 it gives about f:8 on my 121mm, so it could well be for a 90/5.6! I'll measure it when I get home (Thursday), and we can see about a swap if you're interested.

Copal shutters never come from the manufacturer with an aperture scale because the aperture scale depends on the lens. The lens manufacturer produces the aperture scale. I suggest contacting Schneider to see if they still have the part, and how much they charge for it.

An alternative would be to have a CLA (Clean, Lube, Adjust) done on the Compur. The Compurs are fine shutters, but with age the oil in any shutter congeals. Your description suggests that nothing is broken on the shutter, so a CLA should bring it to virtually new condition. S.K. Grimes Inc. and other repair places will do this work for much less than the cost of a new shutter.

Just measured it.. My shutter opens to about 12.5mm, thus confirming my guess of approximately f:10 on my 121mm. So it would be perfect for a 70mm/f:5.6, and would give f:7.2 on a 09mm. Sorry 'bout that (I'm sorry too, I'd like to have a non-clickstop aperture shutter on this lens).
