Where would I buy dry plates and 4x5 plate holders? Do they still make them or do I have to make my own?

Dry plates went out about 70 years ago. If you have an Antique camera that shot dry plates, you usually shim the back a bit and shoot with any more modern roll holder for a 4x5 back or even a polaroid 545 back as I have done... What are you trying to shoot?

Seems to me I read of an eastern or central European country, Russia perhaps, that was still making plates. It caught my attention; but not enough to buy any.

Scroll down to the second section where they talk about plates. I know they coat them. Not quite sure who carries them. Hunt around and you'll find them.

kodak stopped making tmx ( tmax 100 ) plates several years ago.
they were used in photomicroscopy and aerial work where things had
if i remember right, in the 90s, a box of 100 plates used to cost about 400$ ...

panchro-press i think you are right, "slavich" might still make them ...

Hi Josh,

There are getting to be so many great methods and materials for dry plate photography you're sure to find one that fits your style of working. You're going to have a blast!

As for your other question about plate holders, there's ebay of course, but I've been noticing that holders aren't as easy to find or cheap as they were just recently (that might be a cyclical thing.) Fortunately, you can easily make your own plate holders from old wooden film holders, which seem to come available regularly. Here's a bit of info on the 'how-to'.
