Hello,

I'd like to buy a Nova Monochrome Print processor but I can't seem to find one for sale in the US. Does anyone know where I can get one of these?

Thank you,

Puma

I bought mine over the internet, had it delivered to where I was staying on holiday in England and then brought it home on the plane as hand luggage.

I imagine the shipping charge on something like that from the UK to the USA must be horrendous. I want one of them too.

It probably isn't as much as you would imagine.

I am suprised by how inexpensive international shipping can be.

Drop NOVA an e-mail, it cannot do any harm

NOVA are just a few miles up the road from me, so I gave them a call.

NOVA don't have a US Agent

However, they will ship internationally and the chap I spoke to didn't think the shipping price would be too high as the processors are failrly light.

However, the shipping cost does depend on your Zip Code

For a quote either go to their web site and fill in the "Contact Us" tab or e-mail ianw@novadarkroom.com

Good luck

The Monochrome unit is pretty lightweight, so shipping could be reasonable. Even if the shipping is as much as the unit it is probably worth it if you print a lot of B&W.

NOVA shipping rates are very reasonable - they are pretty much "at cost"

They want to sell you products not make a tidy profit on the P&P

I contacted Firstcall-photographic and Nova, firstcall replied to my email a few days later and said the 8x10 monochrome would cost $357 shipped, which is $100 in shipping cost. I never received anything from Nova. Because of the high cost of the unit and high shipping charges I decided to make my own processor. I went to a craft store and bought three glass planters that are 12x2x9, I filled them with chemistry, sat them in a tray and when I'm done printing I cover the top with Saran wrap and secure the wrap with a rubber band. I spent thirty two dollars and so far it seems to work perfectly. In the future I'll buy a Nova processor because I think they use less chemistry and have spouts for ease of cleaning.

The Nova processors seem to come across the block pretty frequently in the UK and Nova often has used models available, but if you can find someone to ship to the States the cost is usually prohibitive.

Looking for one State-side.

How hard would it be to make something like this out of plexiglass? aren't you just talking about using plates of plexiglass with strips of plexiglass on the sides and bottom? Am I Missing something? This looks like the ultimate space saver.

I made my own. I started at Lowe's with Plexiglass. The guy who made the cuts did not take the accuracy seriously and I ended up with very jagged edges that were not watertight even with generous amounts of silicon. To build one you must assemble it with a jig to hold the sides in place perfectly and I recommend building it upside down. The application of silicon in the smaller areas is what makes it difficult, you need tiny hands. The channels need to be in a "V" shape in order to agitate the print which makes the assembly even more challenging. Perhaps mine would have worked if the cuts were more accurate. I returned the plexiglass and bought tall, rectangular glass vases for ten dollars apeice and use them with great success, when I'm done in the darkroom I cover them with Saran wrap and a rubber band. Works perfectly.

When I can find a 16x20 or 12x16 Nova I will buy it because I want to print larger sizes and the drain spouts seem to be a worthwhile addition.
