where is that hair?

That dark "hair" that appears in the upper right side of every frame of my color prints (from color negative film) is in the lower left area of the film gate of my camera....right ????

I'm not sure you can see it in this one but if you goto the original on flickr (click on the image) you can. The hair I'm speaking of is directly up from the half snow covered ridge

yup. same place every frame across multiple rolls. I cannot see it in the film gate though...it's gotta be there, I just cannot see it. May need a stronger pair od reading glasses (only have +3.25 right now).

That's pretty sharply defined, so it has to be near the film plane.

Hmm -- when shooting pinhole (I assume that's the case here since it's in that forum), you are effectively "ray tracing" so I would expect the hair could be anywhere in the line of sight, including dangling from the upper surface of a lens shade or whatever in front of the pinhole. You don't mention the camera -- in a converted folder it could be some fuzz sticking up from a fold in the bellows too. That is to say I respectfully disagree with kino that it being sharp automatically means it has to be close to the film. One of the complaints about attempting to use filters with pinhole is that dust on the filter shows up in the image, although presumably magnified depending on the distance proportions.

Could it be in the scanner? With movie film you get a lot of crud in the camera and projector gates. I’m always cleaning these gates between almost every roll of film. Most of the time you don’t see the crud looking at the gate but a good cleaning makes a big difference when you watch it on a screen.

Ooops! no. Definitely not a pinhole camera - it is a fairly decent 35mm rangefinder. I blame my magic fingers for the the mis-categorization.

Wrong forum I guess - Leica M6 with Zeiss f/2.8 28mm Biogon (no pinhole).

Had that problem with a 2" hair in a borrowed 11x14 camera...easy to find in the camera, after the fact. But yes -- I'd look at that lower left corner

Well you may not be able to see the hair, if you run your fingers over the area (bottom left of the gate) can you feel it?

The hair was in the lower left, when viewing the camera film gate from the back of the camera. It was close to the film, as suggested. It may be long gone, depending on how long ago you took those pictures.
