where do you buy film

I often buy directly from the national dealer for Ilford here in Canada, otherwise through a local store. A while ago, when the dollar was worth more than peanuts I would buy them from New York (B&H or Adorama)

In Ireland there's an APUG member with an online store and I've bought from him as well, I need to check the website address etc, it's late I should remember his name - we've met in the past

B&H or Adorama for bulk orders (I usually buy multiple bricks of PanF+, FP4+, TMax100, Tri-X or HP5+ at a time), or one of our locals when I need smaller quantities of films I don't use as often (Ektar 100, Portra 160, SPX200) or for supplies and chemicals. In a year's time when my Ektachrome is exhausted, I'll add (if it's still available) Velvia 50 and Provia 100 to the "buy in bulk" list.

I'm in the USA so I usually buy from B&H. However, B&H doesn't sell some films I want and Freestyle prices are far greater than macodirect for those films even with overseas shipping. So I buy those films from macodirect. I ordered Rollei RPX 25 4x5 and Rollei IR 400 4x5 from maco just today. Being in the UK and having to pay VAT might change your buying situation vs. mine. We don't pay VAT here.

for Foma only, fomafoto.com. Quite the best prices for Foma films & paper, even including delivery from Norway to the UK (and I expect ROI).
Slavomir (who runs it) is smart and efficient.

For Ilford, Kodak + Foma, CliffordStreetPhotography.com is worth a mention.

Otherwise, any of the UK/EU names mentioned are good. Maco/Fotoimpex often have good prices but delivery costs to UK/ROI can kill any advantage. I used to have a spreadsheet for all the popular films from all the usual UK suppliers so I could compare. Really there isn't much to choose between them once you count in delivery costs for "normal" amounts of film - say 10 or 20 rolls.

If you want to buy in large quantities then ask for price breaks from any of them.

There are so few retailers now that they can't really afford to offer poor service (because competition is so tight), and I've bought from many of those UK retailers mentioned so far and had no problems and only good things to say. There is one I'll never buy from because of the proprietor's rudeness to me, despite their having a few things unobtainable elsewhere.

Sometimes the same retailers have offerings on not only their own sites but eBay and Amazon, and there are occasionally significant price differences between them!

I've got a soft spot for RK who are always friendly and extremely helpful.

Buying from the US often seems appealing because the prices can seem incredibly low compared to UK prices, but once you factor in delivery, import duties and VAT, smaller quantities can suddenly turn out much less of a bargain and often more than buying locally. But if you buy in bulk, it can still prove a bit cheaper. You have to do your homework.

I buy film from mainly from Process Supplies,good service and great prices, also, if I order anytime up to 4.30PM the package is packed and sent the same day,small or large, so I do buy a lot from them, I would not now reccomend Silverprint ans lately their service has, at least for me, has gone down hill, Process also has very often the lowest post charge, over the counter for everything. For service and range I can also reccomend Firstcall and AG Photographic,

They don't always have what I'm looking for, but unless the price difference is large (sometimes), I try to by from my local brick & mortar stores. In Portland,Oregon that's Bluemooncamera and Prophotosupply. Amazon has outlets for B&H, Adorama, but they get sleazy - charging the $3.99 shipping on each roll. I want my two local shops to stay around, so when anythings even close in price, I buy local.
I'm glad there are members that can help w/ UK suppliers. Should you have a local shop that you want to keep open - consider helping them stick around.

If you're in Dublin then, Camera Exchange(Georges St), Gunns(Wexford St), Conns all sell film with the first 2 having extensive range and film knowledge. Can also get your chemicals there. Also you can use (thephotoshop dot ie) which is based in Ireland. Quick delivery. Perhaps asking in the Irish forums might get more answers for local shops?

Yes, I bought my Rollei sheet film from Maco at a little more than half the cost vs. buying from Freestyle in the USA. That does include the overseas shipping fee.
