Suggest you google "1.35v mercury battery replacement". You'll find a few alternatives.

PX625 cells--like all other mercury cells--have been banned in Europe and N. America since 2000.

As suggested, just Google "PX 625 replacement" for tons of advice.

A 675 hearing aid battery with a small o-ring around it works pretty well as a 625 size mercury battery substitute.

A good repairer should ask around $40 for inserting a voltage regulator inside the camera (SRTs have plenty of room). That would allow you to use common alkaline batteries without any deviation in results and solve the problem once for all.

As an acceptable (but not totally equivalent) alternative you might try these adapters, they are reasonably cheap:

The document contains also instructions for doing it by yourself.
