I have no idea how far I'm behind developing film but my 5 year old son is less afraid of the dark now so I'm hoping that soon I'll be able to teach him how bad it is for me to get so far behind.

I've been trying to soup at least 5 rolls a week so cutting down my backlog quite a bit here lately since I haven't been shooting so much during this semester.

Still got ~30 rolls to go but it's better than what I started the semester with!

I developed 8 rolls of black and white last week, so I am caught up there.

I finished a roll of tri-x on Saturday, and will probably develop it this week sometime. But I'm way behind in printing.... I keep a little notebook after I look at my contact sheets with a list of frame numbers to print, some are circled if they look especially good. The notebook is all caught up... I usually make the contact sheets pretty soon after developing. There are lots to print.

Edit: and about those contact sheets: I enjoy sitting down and relaxing and looking at the contact sheets ( wearing my funny looking reading glasses... ). When I was shooting more D191t@L, I dreaded going through my backlog of photos on the computer screen... and even then I was a pretty deliberate shooter like I am with film, but somehow it always got to be a huge job that I hated. ( I spend all day every day at my computer for work, which doesn't make me want to spend all my hobby time at it too... )

At last count: Something in the neighborhood of 60 rolls of 35mm E6 (E100G/VS) to send to Dwayne's; about two dozen rolls of 120 E6 (E100G) to take downtown to theLab; around 30 rolls of 35mm Tri-X/HP5+; and probably over twenty rolls of 120 PanF+ and FP4+ to soup at home next week when I am off on holidays. And then there is the issue of contact printing, and... (damn this seems at times to be a lot of work...for a hobby).

Thanks for the question. I now feel much better that I am not alone in having a backlog!

I have about 15-20 bw rolls (35 &120) left to soup up. I normally accumulate Colour before I drop it off to the lab so about 8-10 there (including couple of 120 velvia). And about 15-20 sheets of Bw plus 4-5 sheets of Colour film.

On contact sheets and printing... I have a huge backlog[emoji20]

I have 243 rolls of 35mm C-41 alone that is waiting to be processed and I really have no excuse because I process this stuff day in day out for a living!

Some of these replies are making me feel rather normal. I have 6 rolls of 120 B&W, 8 sheets of 4x5 B&W and 3 rolls of 120 C-41. My plan is to starting chipping through the B&W this weekend. As for the C-41 - I take these to a local lab just outside of my local CBD. The biggest issue is that I no longer drive to work, so I am having problems getting there! Might have to pop them in an envelope and mail them....

I tend to be up to date with my film processing, I normally wait until I have 2 films, 120 or 35mm, and develop them, I can't wait to see how they have turned out, I will probably never catch up with my printing, If I didn't take any more films and printed just the backlog I might catch up in a few years, but I enjoy being out with one or other of my old cameras

I actually quit even trying to shoot for a few months this winter/spring because of the backlog. Just seeing the bag full of waiting film is stressful enough without adding to it.

Personally, I have two rolls waiting to be developed, plus a few more loaded in cameras that are almost finished. More than that and it starts to bug me.

I don't feel too bad now reading the past comments. Maybe like 10 or 15 rolls and like 20 sheets of 4x5. I've already got a few loaded up in the tanks ready to go. I just feel bad for the rolls in my seldom used cameras. The ones that have a third or half a roll shot from half a year or a year ago. I usually let my color pile build up a bit before I send them all out. The real travesty is the negatives I've sleeved that haven't been printed or scanned as a backup yet.

I shoot 135 only. For C41 and E6 I typically wait for eight rolls so I can use up my chemistry up within a few weeks. Currently 6 rolls of E6 and 4 rolls of C41 are in the queue. B&W normally stays caught up, I typically have XTOL ready to go or use chemistry that I can mix one shot like Rodinal or HC-110. I process pretty soon after shooting.

I develop my film the same day I finish a roll. Problem is it might take 2-3 weeks or more to finish a roll. Just went out exploring for 3 hours and took only 3 shots.

My backlog above might look big but I do purposely not develop most film for at least 4-6 weeks after I shoot. It allows me to be more objective in my evaluations when the shoot was not so recent. I also found if I developed too soon the "excitement" of the shoot and my expectations are too high and I'm too often disappointed. Often with the same negs I revisit later and later like. I'd rather the feeling after my shoots subside and then later I can develop and view my images in a less subjective attitude with a clearer idea in my mind of the results. Just me and maybe strange to others but it's how I like to do it. That and I shoot almost every day and almost always have a camera with me. No way to keep up. Doubt I'll ever be caught up. But doubt I'll leave behind bags and bags of film like Winograd did. Am taking some time off work soon so should get my 60 or so roll back up down at least a bit...

I shot 82 sheets (28x Provia, the rest Portra 160) of 4x5 for my Transformations:Cosplay over the weekend -__-, and 7 rolls of 120 for my personal "walk-around" in Charleston, SC. It will take me a few days - the thing is that I want to process them ASAP, but I will need to be careful to be 100% on the ball...
