What's up with the impossible project?

Received an e-mail today from The Impossible Project stating "something's coming" and that their website will go dark for three days, and to keep watching their site.

My guess is that they are rebranding to Polaroid from the impossible project. I'm also wondering if perhaps Gen 4 film or a new camera might happen to drop. They had their summer sale to blow out stock and most retailers are really dropping their price on the i-1. Original retail was $299 us and Ive seen it for $188. Possibilities...

Maybe they'll have instant 4x5 film.

I think you are right, it is probably re-branding as Polaroid.

Maybe they'll have a new product or two, but I doubt it will be anything really new like peel-apart film or large-format. They got some new $$$ in their merger with Polaroid, but not enough for a major investment like pack film.

+1. The colour stuff was mediocre and overpriced when the original Polaroid made it. The Impossible product is even worse - on both accounts.

More-so, there's talk of prints fading in ludicrously short times. I'm still salty over the demise of packfilm. Just when I started to get the hang of it for $8 a pack then poof, gone.

Maybe they're bringing back roll-film for the older Land cameras.

Read through it. You could interpret it a few ways for certain. It could just be impossible/polaroid is going to sell impossible film under the polaroid brand. That seems likely. They did make mention of Edward land and returning to roots- but another tweet then listed cameras which did not include the land camera.

what would be cool is if polaroid bought Fuji's peel apart film but I don't think that's what happened. If they did that would really make an incredible difference in photo quality for impossible's entire lineup.

There was mention of a beta film and environmental standards. Just noting that the film I've purchased this month from impossible was all made in May or earlier. Maybe they moved their equipment to some area where the environmental standards aren't as strict and can now use chemicals which may produce a better result? 3 months to move a small factory? probably not possible but you never know. Maybe they're producing film in one of Fuji's old factories? If the Beta film is better and rebranded under polaroid, could be a very good thing for them. I've had my complaints about the film but their recent stuff isn't too bad (still needs work though). A few issues for certain but I think some of the complaints they've garnered were due to crappy 40 year old cameras that people bought from a dusty yard sale and just expected to work as they did when they were new.

I'm not thinking they're introducing a new camera anymore though.

They have to be careful with hype like this because expectations get high and then the actual event becomes a disappointment.

That happened with Nikon and the Df - although personally I like the Df (but don't have one).

You're right- and they've been mentioning it on twitter for days now. Still, if this beta film is finished and ready to go any improvements will be appreciated.

I'd love me a Df but yah know food is important. I'm sure I could sell some plasma a few dozen times...
