So about a month ago I finally gave in a and bought a bottle of Rodinal after hearing many good things. I purchased Adox Adonal from freestyle and the bottle was labeled (Adox Adonal- produced according to the latest Rodinal formula). I currently develop and scan for myself and 3 friends and I go through a lot of developer (they help with the cost and shoot with me), so last week I decided to order 4 more bottles. I got them today and they are labeled (Adox Rodinal- Identical to the product sold in europe under the Adonal name). Now I understand that Rodinal was originally and Agfa product and that Agfa is no more, I also had thought that I read that it was sold in the U.S. as Adonal because of a copyright dispute over the Rodinal name. So what gives? Do they simply bottle it as both and it gets shipped wherever it ships? Or is there a massive copyright nightmare involved somewhere? Not really a big deal I'm just curious.

-) Agfa is not dead

-) Agfa neglected their tradename Rodinal in the US for unknown reason, so that they lost it

-) Agfa sold their consumer branch, which later went under

Oh this is good news!! I've been holding off on buying until the Adonal label had gone away so I could snag a "Rodinal" labeled bottle

Did you order from freestyle?

Yep got it from freestyle, it's still listed as Adox Adonal on there site. The first time I ordered the bottle said Adonal, the second time it said Rodinal. I'm guessing you'll get whichever they happen to grab off the shelf.

Oh, I was just hoping they ran out of the Adonal... FIFO and all should apply to chemistry as well shouldn't it?

And yes AgX I'm totally a romantic for Rodinal haha

Considering the mythical aura that surrounds the developer known as Rodinal I can see wanting to have a bottle just because it says Rodinal not Adonal. I'll admit it I was a little excited when I opened the box and saw that my 4 bottles said Rodinal.

Rodinal is the longest sold photographic product ever.

Without his inventor most probably there would not have been Agfa as photo company.

Stone, you are a romantic.

Incurable romantic can be more nice than just romantic

It all depends on your perspective.

Save the bottles. You can decant Adonal into them later.

Rodinal is just a trade name for a concentrated amino phenol developer.

At one time allmost all the suppliers sold clones that lasted for 25 years or so eg Azol.

The pain killer derivative that Zorki cat makes up is still ok after years.
