I remember a couple years back "everyone" agreed that the Nikon 55mm 2.8 was good enough to max out the resolution of a film scanning setup. I always found this a little hard to believe, but at least on my APS-C D5500, I was very happy with it. Back then there was also general agreement that film scanning should be done with a manual focus lens. Now I am seeing the wind has shifted in the direction of an AF lens to focus between shots as each frame buckles and hits the holder different. And, I now have a Z7 which is full frame and higher resolution, so shows the flaws of the 55 2.8.
Long story short: I'm thinking about getting an AF macro lens for Nikon Z. Seems like my options at a reasonable price are the Nikon 50mm F2.8 Z-mount or the Nikon 60mm F2.8 F-mount with adapter. Looking at the MTFs, surprisingly, the F-mount seems to have slightly more resolution at the corners. But at the same time, who knows if they took those MTFs at infinity focus or close up where I want to use a macro lens. Does anyone have any experience with either of these two lenses for film scanning?
