I've used Tri-X 320 in PMK Pyro (4X5) for some time, however in medium format or smaller there is the choice of 400TX or 320TXP. I have followed several threads refering only to "Tri-X". In the wisdom of users of "Tri-X" which do you find to be superior in medium format. The technical data on the Kodak site really doesn't show much difference. Help appreciated.
320TX is said to be lower contrast for use primarily in studio. I use it nicely in 4x5" for landscapes, but have standardized on 400TX for 120 and 35mm. I don't think one is inherently superior.
The curves of 320TXP and 400TX differ, mostly in 320TXP having a longer toe, so being more sensitive to contrast loss due to flare. Kodak recommends the 320TXP for low flare situations, though many photographers use it and are happy with it for non-studio applications (like Niko).
TX 400 has a unique rendition of midtones and a shoulder that makes highlights such as clouds quite 'pasty'.
TXP renders highlights more successfully, in fact it will keep separating into about zone 16. Midtones not as beautiful as TX 400
