What's gone wrong here? Light leak? Bad processing?

I got a roll of film back from the lab recently and noticed a few of the frames had a yellow mark on them. Can anyone shed any light?

It's a fed 5b if that's of use.

I suspect that it's your lab or a bad roll of film. Even w/ colour film, the areas you have shouldn't be yellow on a light leak. If you look at a colour wheel, purple is opposite yellow, which means it's a purple colour on the positive. It looks like a chemical stain to me.

In photography the complementary (opposite) of yellow is blue and the complementary of magenta is green. I would not rule out a light leak (from the back/top area of the camera).

I have a FED 5b which has developed a light leak in the same general location - I haven't been able to localize the source yet.

I don't think it's a light leak. It might be loading the film too forcefully. I think bending the film too hard will leave marks. If it was a light leak, I would think the mark will be repeated in the roll.

The OP mentioned that the mark is repeated over the whole roll. Besides, pressure marks from bending/kinking film look quite different, these marks usually have sharper outlines.

Oops. It sounds like a light leak.

I've had another look and it seems to be on more frames than I first thought. It does seem to be on the same spot in each frame though on some it appears to be a bigger mark and on the photo I posted above it seems to have bled into the next frame which I don't think happened anywhere else on the roll.

Could this be the culprit?

This is the top edge of the shutter when cocked. It's all wrinkly.
This is the bottom edge and what the top edge looks like when not cocked.


If i shine a light through the front in a dark room i can see light through the top but not the bottom I think. EDIT: Actually, not that sure about this bit now.
