Whats a Nikon FM worth?

I never understood why it bothers some folks so much.......
I think i can explain it to you. The reason WHY is.......check back in August of 2027 for the succinct answer, from a member that joined in 2026 and was never part of This Discussion.

I just dont see threads the same as you. I dont see why time matters whether its a day a week month year or decade. To me threads are living things like entities that grow and get added to as time goes by, not static things that have a beginning and an end. If the reply button works, the thread is still viable and relevant. Why limit it to time. and why be annoyed at others who want to join a conversation at a later point in time, even if its 2027. Makes no difference especially if the goal of this website and members is to promote photography hobby. That is the goal isn it?

It depends on the thread.
In many cases the reason that a thread goes dormant is that the question raised had a time sensitive component. In addition, responding to people who haven't been here for years is always awkward.

+1

I never understood why it bothers some folks so much when old threads are replied to. ...

Although old threads are often interesting and enjoyable, the sudden appearance and revival of an old thread that appears to be a new thread presents some pitfalls. I wouldn't say people are much bothered by it though.

This thread, for example, originated in 2010, before I came to APUG (now Photrio) and consequently I'd never seen it before. When I saw it some days ago, its title appeared to me to be a new thread and I began reading it from the beginning. It is my fault that i didn't notice the dates. Anyway, while reading this thread, or any such thread, I began thinking of and formulating possible replies to this thread's posts. I may have done some side research. Then, within a few posts of the end of the thread, I'm suddenly made aware that everything I'd read previously has long been dispensed with - there's no one to reply to and nothing to add that is going to help anyone who was involved. That was the basis of why I though it would be good to identify resurrected threads: so that those of us who don't make it a habit of checking the date would get a clue from the very beginning that an old thread has suddenly reappeared.

I don't think anyone actually objects to the thread itself being resurrected or is actually bothered by it.

probly just cleaned the contacts and wouldnt have done anything else to it if you paid 160 except maybe detail it.

I wonder what motivated you to revive a seven year old thread just to shit on an un-named repair tech?

Ignorance and no self respect.

".......even if its 2027. Makes no difference especially if the goal of this website and members is to promote photography hobby. That is the goal isn it.?......."

But that is not what You Have Done, is it.?.
The OP did not ask (7 years ago) how to make ABC using XYZ.....and you provided a formula.
He commented on a camera that was bought and fixed...End Of Story.
Then You came along and made that comment about a tech probably ripping him off.
Are you "promoting the hobby" with those comments...that is why you have posted all this mess.?
What Knowledge or Info were you trying to add all these years later.?
Good Luck

yes promoting the hobby certainly is what I have done but not what you have done. You made it about me and your being personally offended as evidenced by your emotional reaction. People getting ripped off deters people from getting into the hobby. Great hobby, always someone trying to exploit it and pump up the prices of everything. When I see this kind of exploitation I call it out. And when I see someone ( you) defending this exploitation I call them out.

Well this was a fun catch up..... LOL
