the speed graphic showed up yesterday. it's gonna take forever to restore. should keep me off ebay for awhile.

I love these cameras. I sold my Speeds and kept my Crowns. The beautiful thing about the Speed is you can use any lens! Good luck with your project!!

thanks. this is my second one. first one was in even worse condition when i got it. both from sellers right by the beach on the east coast, so the pair of them only cost me $300 american. any lens huh...

Doing the right thing is a sure fire way to progress and protect your kit.

I've done the same but new, old finds keeps demanding more, if the lens in question, does not come with one in place, though cheap filters may be necessary, hopefully as a stop gap tool only but there is always the chance it'll live in that lens a long time.

Are you buying an assortment of warm, neutral, uv, and Cool skylights?

After I graduated high school I got jobs selling cameras and every camera store recommend using Daylight filters for color film or UV filters for all films to keep the lens front element cleaner and for protection. I have done that ever since and happy that I have always done that. The practice has saved several lenses from damage. I strongly recommend the practice.

The Reflx 4x5 Aerocolor film comes between two pieces of cardboard, in a plastic bag, inside a roomy, elegant 3-part box. The film has a single, large oval/rounded notch reminiscent of Velvia 50, but deeper/more pronounced. The film is thin, as expected, but not unmanageable...the thickness is reminiscent of the Svema B&W film I have been shooting in 8x10 recently...a little bit thicker than litho film.
More updates after I have exposed it and I get it back from the lab.

From the Evilbay, got a roll of Kodak Portra 620 (rerolled by BlueMoonCamera) for $9, and a roll of Kodak Ektar 25 PRH (expired in '95)in 120 for $18. Also got a 3d printed negative holder for 6x9 film (to eventually digitize)

Heliopan 318 brass adapter ring (Bay 60 to 67mm), as I'm sick of the cheap crap Chinese equivalent binding like crazy.

Been trying to find the 330 too (Bay 70 to 77mm), but it's proving very difficult. Might have to try and contact Heliopan directly to see if they have any NOS.

So I'm back with film; traded out my Fuji GFX gear 'cause really... I would shoot with my Fuji X gear if I needed digital's advantages, but if I want to shoot something for myself, something creative.... the GFX just didn't add anything per se in terms of fun. Yes, I like the 3-D analog sort of fun for the odd reason that I work at computers too much as it is that in my off time, analog is a joy. And tes GFX system is wonderful gear made in Japan and extremely high quality manufacture worth every penny, but it was also something I didn't take out and use often because it seemed like overkill. Absolutely loved the glass of that system... from the ergonomics, the touch and feel, and epecially the quality of the images. But I'm far from a photographic Picasso.

So I've kept the X gear for digital... and replaced the GFX with Pentax 645N and Mamiya RB67 Pro SD where the Pro SD is used as a stand-in for 4X5 and I am NOT trying to make it a walk-around ('cause 645 can manage that just fine). Still working out the kinks... but generally happier. Gear $ per item is a lot more reasonable not "my precious" and more inclined to get picked up and used. Reputation as workhorses pushed these guys to the fore over some other choices (no offense to Hassy lovers)... and I guess (for now) I'm trialing the idea that gear-for-purpose might be a better approach than one-size-fits-all. Yes.... there are annoying things about this approach.... like "where's XYZ?" when I need it, but overall it seems to be working. Until it doesn't (yes, we all have a theory until our Mike-Tyson-reality punches us in the face). So hoping to give up the GAS for a while. Open questions: Can MF become my small format, or is it just a means to easing my way back toward my 4X5 again? Yes, I have a freezer full of both size films.... so time willl tell. More discussion than you bargained on... but this is the full story. And yes, one day I might pick up a MF digital again... and use the Pentax 645 glass. But not soon.
