Battery life is better than reported as the camera sleeps when you're not using it. You have to get used to hitting the shutter button as soon as you think about a picture as the camera takes a couple seconds to boot.
Steve Perry's Mirrorless Auto Focus Guide is also very good.
Nikon tempted me with a refurbished Z8 for $3200 today but I'm fine with the Z7II for now. I'd rather have another lens.

So I have to learn to activate the camera early. That will mean that I have to spend more time over target to become one with the camera.

Nikon USA has the latest software and Manual on the Support page for the Z7II. There is a Setup Guide too which is new. Be sure to download NX Studio for processing RAW files and there is NX Tether if you want. Go into the menu on your camera and check that you have the latest Firmware.

I had all the Zs to fondle at the Optic West show, Z9 on down (Z8 wasn't out) and the Z7II was the one I kept picking up. A lot of camera in a small package.

I bought a mint used D6 from B&H, in original box with all the goodies. Last made in Japan Nikon camera. Amazing camera, logical progression from F through F5 to D3, D5 to D6. The last of the line!!

A used D850 a couple of months ago, because the Z6 needed a companion + it was cheap because the shop was having a big sale.
This past week, a DR-5 right angle finder for the D850 to make digitizing slides easier.

So I got a Westcott FJ 80II on camera strobe with built in radio trigger that also doubles as a slave strobe. Got the TTL working with the Z7II camera but only the center of the picture was illuminated properly. Just found the strobe's zoom, it's motor drive from the touch screen. LOL

A Pentax 645Z for wicked cheap. It is a fantastic 'crop sensor' adjunct to the 645N and offers comparable (superior?) image quality to the Nikon D850 which was introduced about 4 years later.

It came with a SMC Pentax-FA 645 45-85mm F4.5 which I also wanted for my film body. I also adapt Pentax 67 lenses to both bodies just to keep things complicated.

Just a quick FYI regarding using Nikon's Webcam Utility USB tethering software: most applications won't receive a video feed if the camera itself is set to record 4K video. I spent at least an hour troubleshooting why my Z6II suddenly stopped functioning with OBS and changing the movie recording settings on the camera body to 1080p fixed the problem.

My decision was between the Nikon D850 and the Nikon Z7 ii and using my Nikon F AF lenses. I was advised by my friend, a retired Kodak employee and recently returned from a trip to Antarctica to buy the Z7 ii because it has vibration control. Then after I ordered the Z7 ii and before it arrived I discovered that the Z7 ii built in vibration control will not work with the F lens adapter and F lenses. Grrr My 28mm to 300mm does not have vibration control and I have not needed it. My 150mm to 600mm AF zoom does have built in vibration control so that will work but I would have liked to have vibration control in the body and the lens. After considering returning the Z7 ii for the D850, I realized that the 150mm to 300mm AF zoom with its 2X extender would have to be manually focused while the Z7 ii is completely compatible.

Separately, does anyone have experience with, recommendation for or against, a harness to hold the D850 or Z7 ii on ones chest with the lens barrel aimed down and allows one to raise the camera to shoot in landscape or portrait positions easily?

Sold Nikon F mount 200-500mm 5.6 and 105mm 1.4, replaced with new 135mm 1.8 Plena and 180-600mm Z lenses.

Sold 2x Godox AD200 Pro strobes and replaced with 3x Godox AD300 Pro strobes.

Sold 2019 MacBook pro 16" intel for 2023 MacBook Pro Max3 w/ 128GB of ram, 4TB SSD. Nothing like exporting 102MP Hasselblad X2D files from raw to jpeg at a rate of 2 per second in PS while LR stitches together 2-3GB panoramics from those same type of raw files.

Ordered a battery for my Lumix LX3.
Much as I'd like to acquire a mirrorless Nikon body for use with my MF and AF Nikkors as well as others, I'm thinking of jumping ship entirely and ordering a new Lumix S5-II with kit lens. I'd have to order adaptors either way, so why not? Lotta camera for far less than a comparable Nikon...

I was told two days ago by one of Samy's repairman that because he had not put a glass cover on his new Sony's screen yet, that he had accidentally scratched that camera's screen. He wished that he had not previously installed the protection screen.

I'll look for one. Which one did you get? I see glass and plastic ones.

I spent the wad on a 2KWS optical spot and 2 more flash heads came with for a total of 19. LOL

The glass ones are stronger and less scratch resistant.
