I have a widget that uses Kodak Ektagraphic/Carousel slide projector lenses. What is the shortest effective focal length lens ever made for this system? I currently have a Buhl 1.4" (35mm) EFL Superwide lens for it. Was there ever anything sold that was wider/shorter?

As sort of a follow on to that, I find a lot of Kodak brand lenses around 100mm and then my Buhl Superwide down at 35mm along with a few others just above that EFL. Why is there a big gulf in between? What were the uses back in the day that produced two such different groups of focal lengths?

The super shorties were used in projection "study carrels" for interactive learning using slides. I think Kodak made a 36mm and Golden Navitar made a shorty, too. Slightly longer lenses were nice when trying to film a big screen. And the fixed focal length lenses, as a rule, were faster than the zooms.

I do not know such booths. But slide projectors were also used for shows to a small group, with a miniature screen entrolled on a desk. Here a wide-angle lens might have been useful.
