I spend most of my time with picture books but I just finished Fritz Henle's Guide to the Rolleiflex. A lot of it is just general photography instruction but it was interesting for me to read how he used his Rollei for some of those activities. It is of course a bit out of date, but still interesting if you like using TLRs.

Technical books unless your are a beginner are really more for reference and don't get read completely.

The last book I went through completely was Hans Windisch's 1956 "The Manual of Modern Photography - Technique" the sequel (well really just an updated edition) of The New Photo School - I have a 1938 copy in English and a 1944 "DIE NEUE PHOTO SCHULE, Die Technik".

My most important technical books are ones I've made (written in) my self which go back to 1976, it has my working notes, films, dev times, zone tests, formulae I use. Most of the data though is now in a lab/timer program I use on my laptop, I don't think I've put it on this one yet my new darkroom is only just ready to use after about 16 months without one.

A really great book. It was recommended by my supervisor when I was at Kodak.

It's not a technical book though

However I'd say it, and books like it, are far more important than technical books.

Does McKeown's Price Guide to Antique and Classic Cameras count? It's got tons of tech info about cameras and I think I've got 1,000 cameras to go even though I've got the 1997/98 version and have been looking at it for years.

Why, Ralph's book (Way Beyond Monochrome Ed 2), of course. Bouncing back and forth from that and the Ilford Multigrade printing book as I am getting back into the swing of things in the dark.

So did I, rorye. Until I dug up an old issue of Lenswork and read Dead Link Removed. That will make you really think about it. Gave me some much needed focus. Might be worth the read.

Same for me - I'm reading this again after having used Kodak High Speed Infrared (HIE) about ten years ago with excellent results.

We'll see how the Rollei film compares.
