While suffering from a case of GAS, I bought what I thought was a killer deal of a Copal leaf shutter on that popular auction website. It was sold as a replacement shutter for a Yashica A TLR and the price was about $25 delivered so I bought it. It arrived yesterday and it's tiny. I haven't taken a micrometer to it, yet, but from what I could find online about Compur 00 shutters, it's about the same size. That makes it really small for large format photography (and who would sell just the lens elements for something that would use a Compur 00 shutter anyway?).

The thought had occurred to me that I might be able to adapt it to the old USCC Comet camera since that camera lacks shutter speeds and aperture. It would also allow me some focusing ability since I would reuse the meniscus lens on the thing and the front of the shutter is threaded.

Another possibility is to buy a Nikon or Olympus microscope camera and adapt it to that but I have four 35mm film cameras already.

I bought the optical guts of a Nikon 135mm f/3.5 lens some time ago that I could probably machine a housing for and place this shutter in the middle of it. I think I'll lose a few stops as the original lens used with the shutter was an 80mm f/3.5 and this one is 135 (the aperture opening needs to be bigger, I believe). What would I use this on if I do this? I don't think the image circle would cover 6X6 but I haven't tested this, yet.

Any thoughts on this? I'd hate to have to put it back on eBay especially since the seller listed another one for sale.

If it were mine… I'd 3d print a little rig to turn my mamiya RB bellows hood into a tilt-shift lens… and stick a flipped brownie hawkeye lens on it (focus via the bellows rails and the RB bellows). I've sketched this idea up but realized I wouldn't have a shutter since the RB lenses are where the shutter is. I'd like to be able to mount holgas, flipped hawkeyes, and probably something decent to do tilt/shift on the RB...

Well, there are LF lenses that go into #00 shutters. Older Super Angulons, for example, and some Boyer Beryls. These last were also sold in barrel and little Beryls in barrel turn up occasionally.

That said, "about the same size" may not be close enough to the same size.

Use it for a 2x3 or 3x4 Crown Graphic?
