What to do with a large amount of Ilford Perceptol

I stocked up on Perceptol thinking that Perceptol 1:3 was going to be neat thing, turns out it isn't.
So now I'm interested in what Perceptol was originally designed for and any particular films that Perceptol might be especially suited for.

It's a sub for Microdol-X, all the rage back in the 60's and 70's. Somebody on here will want it, Hard to beat D-76, I've been into XTOL for quite a long time. There's nothing wrong with Perceptol, don't read too much into all the opinions on here. Anything Ilford makes will work fine.

Perceptol is a great, but special purpose, developer designed to give fine grain at the cost of some speed. For that matter, it's great with many 100 speed films, and with Pan F+ (50), especially when given an extra stop of exposure.

Perceptolis particularly good with Pan F as BVY says., have a look at (there was a url link here which no longer exists), he uses 120 Pan F in Perceptol at 1+2.

While Ilford and kodak only list times for developers FS, 1+1 and 1+3 it's easy to extrapolate a starting point, teh problem with 1+3 is it exhausts unless you use a larger volume and experience shows that many developers ID-11/D76, Microphen (ID-68), Xtol and Perceptol all work well at 1+2, finer grain than 1+3, less speed loss than FS or 1+1.

I just started using a home-brew Perceptol at 1:1 with FP4. I like it so far. Although the Perceptol formula is not published, as far as I know, it is thought to be almost identical to D-23, but with sodium chloride added.

In addition to Ian Grand's statement (Yes Perceptol is T H E developer on PanF)
I would give a recomandation to Delta100!
Realy? - An oldstyle developer type to modern Tgrain emulsions ?????
Sure because of 1.) Perceptol isn't such "oldstyle" as many would expect.
2.) with Tgrain Ilford Delta 100 you will have a very spezial use of Perceptol :

- Delta 100 E.I. ISO 25 and bon chance
with long developer times - but as a result
the finest grain outsite of the use of special bw films with special designed high priced developers.

(Agfa Copex with Spur Nanospeed) for example.

Yes - Ilford Perceptol (especially in modernest form with some little changings of compounds) isn't published
because Ilford does not see the need to give us the secret of formulation to support our homebrews...

..!
But as a derivate formulations is given in many formulas of some types with little
changings.
One of the simplest formulation with easy to handle compounds one van imagine and in addition a great start to
First selfmade homebrew to everybody
else.

Well, if I had bothered to read the Iford spec sheet I would have seen that the development time for HP5+ at 1:3 is 25 minutes.
I jumped in at 15 minutes and then 18 minutes. So my expectations from my results were a off by a mile.

So I'm now moving forward again with Perceptol, 1:3, HP5+.

Stock up on some ORWO UN-54, stunning in Perceptol 1:1

I've never tried PanF+ in Perceptol, but just pulled some out of the fridge last night to shoot with today. Will give it a try. Thanks!
